We are currently seeking a Speech, Language, Communication and Sensory (SLCS) Mentor to join the team based at our Salisbury campus on a full time, term time only + 4 weeks contract.
The main purpose of this role is to provide high quality learning support to named learners with speech, language, communication and sensory support needs. Within this role you will enable learners with speech, language, communication and sensory support needs to access learning and college facilities; and through the provision of learning support, aid retention and achievement of high needs students and students with a declared need. You will also be required to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of support provided to ensure that the support provided meets the needs of the learner and to develop a continuous cycle of review and improvement. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare and wellbeing of learners remains a top priority.
The successful candidate will have experience of using Makaton and British Sign Language and a qualification in communication support is desirable. Experience of supporting young people and adults with profound and moderate learning difficulties is essential, as well as a good understanding of ALS needs and strategies for supporting students. SLCS Mentors will be assigned to work with students with a range of learning disabilities and learning difficulties from pre-entry to HE level. As such they will need to have an appropriate level of education themselves, including the attainment of Maths and English to at least level 2.
