Job profile summary:

Responsible for supporting the team in successfully delivering wells drilled on time and in budget, providing drilling engineering support during operations, and conducting activities in compliance with functional processes and policies and external local regulations

Job Advert:

⦁ Applies sound principles of drilling engineering design, works on programme preparation and equipment readiness, and provides operations support to successfully deliver wells drilled on time and within budget.

⦁ Continuously seeks areas for performance and safety improvements and process optimisation in alignment with the function's practice and policy.

⦁ Goes to the well site in order to provide drilling engineering support during job execution stage, when required.

⦁ Creates an environment that enables the business to drive operations excellence and achieve our vision, leading the design, planning and execution of drilling activities, ensuring activities are conducted in line with the relevant internal and external policies, procedures and regulations.

⦁ Develops a strong network within Wells and other related functions, promoting collaboration in order to safely and efficiently deliver the annual plan.

⦁ Provides Right-scoping to identify the optimal well design to meet life of well requirements

⦁ Proactively identifies and shares global and local learnings through close collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders and develops themes/trends from issues and incidents, whilst ensuring related lessons are captured and codified into standards and technical practices.

⦁ Provides advanced engineering experience and expertise needed for well design, well planning, and preparation of drilling programmes that safely and compliantly meet the well objectives.

⦁ Supports more senior colleagues in the execution of well operations by delivering high-level drilling engineering leadership, support and assurance during operations.

⦁ Continuously seeks areas for performance and safety improvements and process optimisation in alignment with the function's practice and policy.

⦁ Interprets the Statement of Requirements for wells and provides advanced knowledge of drilling to help prepare the necessary documentation, in support of safe, compliant, reliable and competitive wells.

⦁ Continually reviews drilling operations performance, identifying and sharing lessons learned and leading continuous improvement in performance and process optimisation, in alignment with the function's practices and policies.

⦁ Enhances own engineering proficiency through completing a number of development objectives, including taking a significant role in the well cycle, interfacing with commercial, surface and subsurface aspects of drilling, understanding how to address risk and uncertainty in the well plan and incorporating lessons learned, and undertaking an engineering assignment.

⦁ Works towards demonstrating required technical competences for drilling engineering and a broad understanding of the Operations Management System for Wells, Common Process and principles and practices of Well Control.

⦁ Complies with BP’s Code of Conduct and models BP’s Values & Behaviours.

Essential Experience and requirements

Experience in delivering Drilling Engineering activity on a variety of well types; knowledge of drilling design, planning and execution; knowledge of drilling equipment including engineering assurance and QA/QC requirements; knowledge in the evaluation of drilling execution performance


Accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Masters Degree preferable
