The Research & Enterprise Directorate supports academic staff and departments to undertake world-leading research and to disseminate the knowledge created to external stakeholders for the benefit of society.

We have 2 vacancies in our Research Grants and Contracts team for a Research Grants Coordinator: 1 x full-time and 1 x 90% FTE. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a team and contribute to the success of the University of York. The role will enable you to develop a sound understanding of research administration, including financial monitoring. You will contribute towards service improvements and excellent customer service. You will have good analytical and numerical skills, be methodical, organised and have a high standard of accuracy.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
  • High level computing skills, ability to utilise standard (Microsoft) software packages and adapt to bespoke systems, particularly those with financial bias
  • Excellent communication and numerical skills, showing confidence and meticulous attention to detail
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a large team, prioritising work and responding flexibly to achieve deadlines
  • Able to demonstrate and bring a high level of organisational and project management skills to a highly diversified and complicated portfolio of research projects
  • Ability to identify practical solutions to multi-faceted issues and able to explain these in non-technical terms to other members of staff, escalating internally and externally to relevant stakeholders as required
  • Experience of working in a large complex organisation
  • Proactive and keen to initiate improvement plans
  • Excellent attitude towards delivering high level customer service
  • High level of organisational and project management skills
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience
  • Good maths GCSE
  • Accounting or business qualification (desirable)
  • Knowledge of academic research processes and issues
  • Knowledge of the requirements of major sponsors of research activity in the HE sector or similar environment
