Hillcrest Glebedale School is an independent ‘Good’ Ofsted registered school supporting children and young people with social, emotional and Mental Health difficulties. The independently DfE education provision offers a bespoke approach to teaching all 30 pupils aged 7-19 years. Working with small class sizes, we provide a differentiated curriculum and progress pupils through entry level functional skills and GCSE qualifications. We are commutable from Stoke on Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Hanley, Tunstall, Keele, Hanchurch, Hulme and other surrounding towns and villages.

Job Summary and Duties

Working as the Senior Pastoral Support Worker at Glebedale School, you will create and maintain a purposeful, structured and nurturing environment where pupils feel safe to learn. You will need to be confident taking the lead in responding to school incidents, directing staff and using best practice with regards to de-escalation and physical intervention. Taking pride in being a role model, not only establishing good relationships with the pupils but also sharing your knowledge and experience with your colleagues. The role will be challenging but rewarding, working in a dynamic environment where you can make a real difference.

This is a full time, permanent position (Term Time Only, including 5 non-pupil days). Your working week of 37.5 hours will be arranged by the Head Teacher.

Following a thorough induction programme, your duties will include:

  • Working with school colleagues and other professionals to identify barriers to learning for groups and individuals.
  • Leading on the identification of pupil welfare needs and implement related personal programmes e.g social, health, physical, hygiene and first aid.
  • Establishing good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.
  • Encouraging pupils to interact with others and engage in the school community
  • Participating in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
Key Skills Required
  • GCSE in Maths and English (Grade C/Level 4 and above) or Level 2 equivalent
  • Previous experience of work with children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs with additional SEND needs essential
  • A good understanding of barriers to learning and external support agencies
  • Have the ability to deal with complex and challenging behaviour
  • A full UK driving licence is desirable
