Department of Biology

We are looking to recruit a motivated research laboratory technician to join the group of Dr Andrew Holding within the Department of Biology. The Holding group is investigating steroid hormone receptors, in particular the role of the oestrogen receptor in driving the growth of breast cancer.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on laboratory experience into breast cancer research, and to further develop your own skills in a variety of techniques including molecular and cell biology, and cell/tissue culture, cell-based assays and primary tissue samples.

This post is funded by a grant from the Centre for Future Health to Dr Holding.

Role

You will join a newly-established research group focused on understanding how the oestrogen receptor drives breast cancer tumour growth. You will provide vital scientific support to Dr Holding, specifically, with a responsibility for the culture of breast epithelial cells provided by the Breast Cancer Now tissue bank and to undertake their analysis. Ideally you will have experience of cell culture of primary cells, immunofluorescence and/or flow cytometry. You will also oversee the efficient daily operation of Dr Holding’s lab and provide integral support for activities such as: cryostorage, maintaining consumable stocks, laboratory administration and ordering.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • A minimum of 2:1 undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
  • Molecular Biology techniques experience including: tissue culture of human cells.

Interview date: TBC

For informal enquiries: please contact Andrew Holding on Andrew.holding@york.ac.uk
