Biffa is on the lookout for a Logistics Manager/Planner to plan, manage and evaluate logistic operations liaising with internal stakeholders, suppliers, logistic providers, transportation companies and customers. To introduce and maintain an effective and efficient Logistic framework for the operations of business unit. Create and implement best practice logistics principles, policies and processes across the organisation to improve operational and financial performance. To tender and coordinate cost effective efficient transport both in and outbound and between each facility working with the National Commercial Manager and Site Management.
1 Strategically plan and manage logistics across the MRFs & PRF’s while maintaining high levels of quality and service within budgetary requirements.
2 Review weekly transport costs & target cost/efficiency improvements through planning/ tendering, negotiating and agreeing contracts across the scope of operations.
3 Develop and maintain strong relationships with all concerned in the logistic process and internal and external customers/suppliers.
4 Maintain metrics and analyse data to assess performance and implement improvements.
5 Select carriers/suppliers and monitor service against established SLA’s and company criteria.
6 Ensure compliance with O licence, Duty of Care requirements and transport legislation across the operations,
7 Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify inefficiencies and cost optimisation opportunities.
8 Working with Site/Operations Managers understand requirements, demands and potential impacts on delivery of targets.
9 Identify optimal transport modes, routes and frequency and review weekly with business units.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The specialist and technical substance of the job would be a detailed understanding of haulage operations, contract negotiations and traffic management planning.
The essential qualifications of the job are a CPC Certification of Professional Competence as minimum but preferably hold a CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport) qualification GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English and Microsoft package competent.
The autonomy of this role is to ensure that the logistics operation runs without concern and does not limit plant operations or impact customer expectations.
The constraints that are on the job include developing the procedures and policies to ensure the operation is Safe and runs smoothly.
The key internal and external interface in the role are Site Managers, National Commercial Manager, site operations (internal) and disposal outlets and customers (external).
The placeholder would be expected to travel within the MRF / PRF network with occasional overnight stays if required by the business needs.

Experience of waste & recycling transport and operations in a Management position:
Implementation of new processes and developments
Experience of working with a 24/7 multi-site operation.
Monitoring and control of contracts and adherence to SLA’s and company criteria.
Knowledge and understanding of waste industry and environmental legislation.
