We are looking to appoint a Senior Heritage Consultant to help grow our Heritage team in Newcastle. The successful candidate will work on a wide variety of planning and heritage assessment work. They will advise both public and private sector clients on all aspects of the historic environment including world heritage sites, listed buildings, conservation areas and historic landscapes. Our work is hugely varied; from the inception of projects, contributing to design development through to detailed negotiation, justification and advocacy of complex proposals. Whether it is analysing a traditional farmstead, finding a new future for a grand Victorian public building or delivering a major development in a sensitive city-centre locations, our expertise helps our clients find imaginative and successful solutions for their projects.

We are looking for a Consultant with strong independent research and writing skills but also the ability to work collaboratively within the heritage team at Lichfields, with co-consultants including architects, engineers and archaeologists and with our clients. The successful candidate will contribute to business development representing Lichfields to clients, stakeholders and the wider heritage and planning sector.

Core competencies for the role include excellent report writing, presentational and analytical skills.

We expect applicants will:

• have 5 years’ experience working in the heritage or planning sectors.
• have achieved at least 2.1 at first degree level.
• have a demonstrable interest in and understanding of the historic environment and its management. A qualification in a built heritage-related subject (e.g. architectural history, archaeology, architecture, historic buildings conservation, or similar) would be an advantage but we recognise that there are many routes into heritage consultancy and planners, urban designers or other specialisms with can be very successful in this role.
