Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 August 2022 in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.

The Institute of Criminology seeks to appoint a part-time Project Administrator reporting to Professor Ben Crewe, Dr Susie Hulley and Dr Serena Wright. This is a part-time post (0.5 FTE) and is available from 1st April 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter. Due to limited funding, the post will be available until August 2022 in the first instance.

The post involves working for a major study, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, the main aim of which is to re-interview around 150 prisoners and ex-prisoners, all of whom were participants in a study of long-term imprisonment around seven years ago. In the original study, all participants were serving long life sentences and had been sentenced when aged 25 or under. The majority are still in prison, but some have been released into the community.

The Project Administrator is pivotal to the smooth running of the project through a range of activities undertaken in conjunction with the research team. This will include the arrangement of travel and fieldwork, management of research expenses and other aspects of the budget; website maintenance plus general administrative duties; and editing interview transcripts. The organisation of seminars, conferences and other dissemination activities is also a key element of the post.

Strong organisational and writing skills are essential, as is being a strong communicator and being efficient and flexible in your approach to work. Prior experience of working within teams and managing large (research) projects is highly desirable, as is experience of conference management. The ability to effectively summarise long research interviews is essential.
