Are you interested in a strategic medical affairs role that leverages your respiratory expertise to accelerate global medical affairs engagement? If so, this Office Based Medical Affairs Manager role could be an ideal opportunity to explore.

As an Office Based Medical Affairs Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring adequate therapy area input, maximized leveraging of existing Medical platforms, and aligned implementation of Medical Affairs processes and initiatives across the Medical organization.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

    • Work closely with commercial colleagues to provide proactive input into the strategic management of branded medicines and with clinical colleagues to ensure UK involvement in the development and implementation of research studies.
    • Provide authoritative opinion on medical and ethical matters to support colleagues across GSK UK, enabling the evidence based use of GSK medicines and compliance with the relevant statutory requirements (e.g. ABPI Code of Practice, Medicines Act, and EU Directives), providing certification where required.
    • Provision of proactive input to the development of business strategy, working closely with commercial colleagues across GSK UK.
    • Effectively develop relationships with key stakeholders and external organisations to ensure that GlaxoSmithKline retains a leading voice in the UK Healthcare industry.
    • Co-ordinate and utilise specialist knowledge with brand aligned colleagues in formulating and implementing short and long term medical strategy for optimal commercial benefit.
    • Work closely with regulatory, commercial and health outcomes colleagues on pre-launch planning, including strategic evidence planning and generation.
    • Establish relationships and build trust with external experts/ investigators to answer medical questions or provide GCP, safety, and therapy training and address issues arising from studies in the UK by supporting the clinical director and clinical study managers. To provide input into post study analysis with the central team and interpretation for the UK.
    • Input into reviews and sign off of abstracts, reports and publications where required
    • Responsible for co-ordinating GSKs response to complaints from bodies such as the PMCPA or MHRA – this will typically involve engaging members of the extended brand team e.g. brand manager, regulatory affairs manager
    • Support health outcomes work as appropriate

    Support Clinical Research activities in respect of:

    • Knowledge of UK clinical practice, external experts (EEs), care pathways, key competitors, etc. and input where required into study allocation process and implementation of studies in the UK.
    • Input into a development of local protocols, patient information leaflets (including sign-off of risk/benefit statement), Investigator-Supported Studies and named patient programmes.
    • Proactive input into European Medical meetings to ensure UK strategy is supported.
    • Input into reviews and sign off of abstracts, reports and publications where required

    Basic Qualifications:

    We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

    • A GMC registered medical doctor with the right to work in the UK.

    • Experience in Code of Promotion and Scientific Engagement
    • Therapy knowledge in one or more of the following therapeutic areas: Oncology, Respiratory, Virology, Metabolic, Vaccines, Central Nervous System/Anaesthesia.
    • Continuous record of career achievement through clinical development and/or medical affairs positions.
    • Awareness of the role of Medical Affairs in the industry
    • A good understanding of the changing UK health care environment.
    • Leadership potential.
    • Proactive, self motivated, self-reliant.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

    • Respiratory experience preferred but not essential

    • Excellent understanding of medical functions and medical affairs activities
