AECOM’s Sustainability team within our Building and Places Business Line is recognised as an industry leader in the field of sustainable development. We work with Governments to support Building Regulations and National planning policy relating to climate change, to developing energy and sustainability strategies to support the design and planning of new development and the resilience of cities.
A snapshot of our work includes:
The development of policy on low carbon and renewable energy, climate change and sustainability issues
Preparing industry-leading best practice guidance and policy advice for Government, GLA, RIBA and CIBSE
Sustainable masterplanning of new communities
Environmental assessments - BREEAM, LEED, WELL, Home Quality Mark and the RICS Ska Rating
Circular economy strategies and embodied carbon calculations
Research into reducing energy use, improving resilience to climate change and creating more sustainable buildings
Your key responsibilities, with support from the team, will include the following:
Provide strategic input and advice to new-build projects and masterplans on how to minimise energy demands and seek to achieve net zero performance
Provide consultancy support to organisations to develop carbon reduction and GHG emissions reduction strategies
Deliver (or manage) building energy modelling and other analyses with the appropriate tools,
Provide consultancy support to local authorities, cities and regions to develop multi-sectoral strategies for achieving net zero, including through design of district heating and renewable energy systems
Writing proposals and winning new work as well as building client relationships and delivering work
In response to growing interest in sustainability issues, we are seeing an increasing demand for our consultancy services to assist building projects, organisations, cities and regions to develop carbon strategies and action plans for achieving net zero emissions. We are seeking an experienced Senior / Principal Consultant to join an established Sustainable Development Group based across the UK and we would love you to join us in any of the following locations - St Albans, London, Basingstoke, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds or Manchester.
You will need the following skills and qualifications to be successful in this role
A science, engineering or building-related degree; a building sustainability/energy related MSc is desirable
An ability to communicate effectively, be client-facing and able to write concise and clear reports;
Have a good understanding of and interest in sustainable development issues as they relate to the built environment
If not currently chartered, ideally should be working towards chartership with a relevant institution (e.g. CIBSE, Energy Institute, IEMA)
The following skills and qualifications would be great if you have them but not essential as you will have the support network to grow in these areas if you wish to -
Experience of techno-economic modelling of low carbon heat networks
Experience of evidence base development to support changes in regional or national policy and regulations
Experience with demand side management and/or energy storage
Experience with using GIS tools for spatial mapping of data
Experience of stakeholder engagement and stakeholder workshop facilitation
Knowledge of smart systems/ smart grids
Knowledge of new fuels and technologies – e.g. hydrogen.
Knowledge of GHG accounting and reporting methodologies.
