You will perform a number of healthcare science technical/scientific activities e.g. performs standard tests appropriate to the discipline in which you are employed including preparation of sample prior to processing and operate & maintain complex equipment. You will provide technical and analytical support to registered Biomedical & Clinical Scientists.You should prioritise urgent requests and ensure that they are directed to the appropriate section of the laboratory in a timely manner. You will package samples and arrange transport for investigations carried out at a secondary testing centre and oversee the work of Medical Laboratory Assistants and acts as an initial point of contact should any problems arise. You will carry out duties in accordance with the departmental health and safety policy and you will be responsible for the timely direction of samples to the appropriate section and informing staff of urgent requests. You will handle and assess suitability of samples for analysis and perform near patient testing dependent on discipline. You will deal with telephone enquiries and direct any queries to the appropriate people and enter patient demographics and retrieve results as requested respecting patient confidentiality and data protection at all times. It is essential that you have a minimum of SVQ level 3 with at least 2 years experience as Healthcare Science Support worker with a commitment to study for and gain an HND in Biomedical Science or equivalent qualification OR direct entry for those possessing an HND. The shift pattern for this post is Monday - Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm.
