What is the Role?
To lead the development of end-to-end technical solutions for bids for SSE ET. Responsible for assisting the sales team to qualify opportunities in / out based on fit against SSE ET's product / service portfolio and strategy. To work with the sales team, prospects and technology partners to define the scope of opportunities. To work in a consultative sales manner to shape opportunities to a level required to engage in SSE ET’s gated governance process.
Responsible for managing the assessment of customer requirements and creating work packages within SSE ET's technical, delivery and operational functions to drive the creation of complete end-to-end solutions which meets the customer ask. To identify risks, assumptions and dependencies and provide means to reduce the impact of these in the end-to-end solution. Validation of solution design, delivery and ongoing support costs for bids.
Works closely with the Bid Solutions Director, Bid Managers, Sales Leads and extended technical, operations and delivery teams in day-to-day activities, programmes and initiatives.
Comply with and actively embrace the SSE approach to health and safety guidelines.
Responsible for the technical bid solution for bids which you are the designated Solution Architect. Ensures that all bid opportunities >£2.5m TCV are architected in alignment with the SSE ET network strategy and complement the growth plans of SSE Enterprise. Triage opportunities and their requirements into appropriate work packages, define resources required and desired outcomes to drive the creation of the solution in a timely manner. Provide coaching to the teams to pass on best practice, continuous improvement. Ensure that all actions agreed at the Opportunity Review are recorded and followed up. Ensure application of a zero tolerance regime.
Ensure that all bids conform to company gate requirements and are authorised to the correct levels within SSE ET and Enterprise. Take responsibility for ensuring that the end-to-end solution complies with the requirements. Provide coaching to the teams to pass on best practice and continuous improvement. Ensure that all SSE E governance actions are followed up and closed. Ensure application of a zero tolerance regime.
Provide leadership through direction, coaching, constructive challenge, process control (as appropriate) across the SSE ET business (guided by SSE E policies) to ensure that:
Each bid is resourced to a reasonably professional level to ensure that SSE ET is perceived as competent and professional, by both internal and external stakeholders, in the execution of tenders and proposals
Each bid follows a best practice approach to bid planning, stakeholder mapping and management, win strategy development
Performs reviews of bids to maximise win probability and profitability.
Establish strong credible relationships with the key stakeholders of the gate process, and resources. Leverage and develop relationships throughout the business to maintain customer focus and collaborative approach in delivery of client needs. This includes establishing relationships that allows the wider SSE Group to provide all services that are part of the enterprise group portfolio and form part of the wider SSE Enterprise business.
Work with the SSE ET Bid team (sales / finance / legal) and the entire SSE ET Network Technology team (design / operations / programme / project) to ensure the bid and governance processes are robust and appropriate for SSE ET and the technology deployed can integrated into the existing technology infrastructure.
Ensure technology resource plans and resource pools within SSE ET and partners are working to the agreed targets and objectives for bids.
Ensure that all administration and written documentation, bid input, technical proposals etc. is of an excellent standard.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role you should have a proven and demonstrable track record of leading complex bid solutions involving a broad range of technologies and across diverse industry sectors.
Experience should be for end-to-end solutions and have incorporated the design, delivery and ongoing operational support aspects.
You should be confident engaging with C-level executives and be able to present complex solutions to non-technical audiences. You are able to win hearts and minds of internal and external stakeholders and are able to negotiate well by understanding others needs and priorities.
You will have a good working knowledge of a number of technologies including OSI layers 1-7, network protocols, LAN/WAN architectures, Fibre, Ethernet, MPLS, Optical, Voice / Call Centre, Radio / Microwave / Mobile and Cloud based services. You should have a broad knowledge of key vendors and suppliers in the telecommunications industry and their respective product portfolios which may be necessary to deliver complete solutions.
You will have a high level of computer literacy and have excellent attention to detail, communication, presentation and numeracy skills.
You should be customer focussed with positive influencing skills and be able to work on multiple tasks in a deadline driven environment and remain professional at all times.
Experience in leading complex bid solutions teams to achieve success along with being articulate, confident and tenacious with the ability to self-manage and act on one’s own initiative against pre-determined KPIs.
Strong analytical skills and ability to influence shaping of technical solutions and previous experience in providing technical and commercial input to major RFQ, RFI, RFP responses.
Previous experience of leading end-to-end solutions in bids and a bid mentality - 'answer the exam question, show evidence'.
Excellent verbal and presentation communication skills, Literate including the grammatical correctness and structure of written communications along with a high level of professionalism with strong presentation and technical qualification skills.
Demonstrate tact and persuasion in both internal and customer discussions or meetings.
Knowledge of technologies and disciplines used to deliver large Telecommunications Infrastructure projects such as fibre transmission networks, packet based solutions, IP, radio / mobile, voice / contact centre, Operations, Delivery / Project Management.
Highly organised, disciplined and professional with the ability to work accurately to demanding timeframes.
Technology focus with specific knowledge relating to a broad range of Telecommunication Infrastructure and commitment to delivering exceptional results.
Assertive and confident with a "can-do, will do, want to do" approach & positive, determined and motivated by business & technology challenge.
Ability to demonstrate a commitment to collaborative and innovative working & embraces and supports change.
Able to rationalise and make incisive decisions along with being a team player.
Flexibility to undertake regular travel in the UK will be required, although role is office based.
