Environmental Safety Engineer (Radiological Protection), Hartlepool, Competitive salary and benefits

As part of the Environmental Safety Group you will be responsible for monitoring and executing the required Radiological Protection Standards and processes leading to safe and reliable operation of the nuclear power plant in accordance with all regulations and licenses and in compliance with the requirements of regulating bodies, company business strategies and industry best practices. You will have a safety focus in all activities and actively participate in ensuring that all activities support safe and reliable operation of the plant, adhering to agreed safety and radiological standards.
On a day-to-day basis you will:
Manage specifications, work instructions and other control documents to ensure radiological safety. Co-ordinate an effective radiological protection programme to ensure safe reliable generation within the business and provide technical advice and input both within the business, with external organisations and Regulators. Take an active part in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of team business plans.
You will be a member of the Station Environmental Safety Group reporting to the Environmental Safety Group Head. Following training and site familiarity, it is expected that the candidate will take on the roles of Accredited Health Physicist and Emergency Health Physicist.
The Emergency Health Physicist role will require the candidate to be on-call typically on a 1 in 4-week basis. This requires individuals to live within a 45-minute drive of the Station.
The post holder will become part of a team responsible for the provision of advice to the Station on all aspects of Radiological Protection. They may be expected to take on other radiological protection roles within the business as the business requires. They will also liaise with peers within EDF to share best practice and strive to continually improve local and fleet radiological performance.
The applicant should possess the following knowledge, skills and qualities:
• Demonstrable experience in Radiological Protection such as; instrumentation, dosimetry, dose control, contamination control, dose assessment, Radiation Risk Assessments and the ALARP principle.
• Knowledge of statutory legislation relevant to Radiological Protection, Nuclear Site Licence requirements and Emergency Plan arrangements.
• Demonstrate effective team values and influencing styles in achieving personal and team goals and will build effective cross-functional relationships and team working at all levels.
As a minimum, the applicant will have a relevant HNC (or equivalent). Candidates with a relevant Degree may have an advantage.
Ideally, candidates will have relevant experience and will have demonstrated working within radiological protection in a nuclear related environment.
Competitive Salary & Benefits
The salary range is competitive, with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. The salary you are appointed will depend on your current experience, qualifications and competence. You will receive 28 days annual holiday plus bank holidays, incremental and competency based progression and a career average company pension scheme.
