The Opportunity

This role will be joining a community of consulting professionals at DMW who are helping clients keep pace with cloud, digital and data modernisation, and in particular will help us resolve some of their biggest challenges faced in transforming energy, and trading analytics. You’ll need to bring with you the technical acumen, principles and knowledge to be credible in this constantly changing landscape, but also the modesty, imagination and logic to help our clients navigate, challenge and reform existing norms.


Here’s what you will do

DMW is different to many other consultancies, in that we expect our consultants to deliver and lead by example to the interests of our clients, as trusted advisors, with a focus on enabling effective use of insight and associated technology by their staff and customers; not doing it for them.

As a managing consultant you’ll work autonomously or leading a team, to engage with our existing clients and prospective leads on establishing progressive technical, people & process change to meet their data & analytics needs. You’ll help us grow our practice and shape offerings in the space of energy & trading, as well as our core data & analytics enablement capabilities; including data strategy, data platforms, service-oriented design for data & analytics, continuous intelligence, and scaled agile (value-stream led delivery). You’ll be expected to lead projects and even programmes with diverse teams and skillsets, and help our clients transform their businesses into organisations that are not just data-led, but appropriately prepared for the changing face of business and digital emphasis post COVID-19.


Based in the vibrant and modern Labs House, we are a stone’s throw away from Holborn station. Boasting coffee lounges, co-working spaces, ping pong/table tennis tables, free on-site gym and weekly yoga classes all the way through to fortnightly free breakfasts.


This is a permanent full-time office-based role. However, we do consider flexible ways of working that allow the best outcomes for our team.


  • Manage data and analytics capability delivery projects using Agile & Waterfall techniques, balancing scope, quality and cost to deliver outcomes agreed with the business within available budget
  • Management and resolution of issues, mitigation of risks that could impact the project or programme
  • Lead capability to develop rich data visualisation dashboards for data analysis, reconciliations and reporting
  • Lead production of design artefacts to describe key components and interactions for development by self and team
  • Lead transition of implementation for support and maintenance
  • Lead capability to produce prototypes by quickly translating requirements into demonstrable data pipelines and iterate solution in short cycles
  • Interrogate platform data sources and produce views of useful information to meet various business requirements
  • Bring project rigour to delivery innovation; particularly cost and benefit
  • Support customers with business change and benefits realisation activities
  • Support customer with data & analytics strategy definition
  • Stakeholder management (Customer business, IT, external leads & DMW)

Lead sprint planning to decompose stories/PBIs into tasks and provide estimates.

Lead maintenance and enhancement of data engineering SDLCs and frameworks.

  • Ensure customer delivery is resourced for success (recruitment of key project roles)


  • Experience of delivering business value through data in Energy trading environments, either in a technology or delivery role
  • Experience in benefits model development, tracking and realisation
  • Experience of support and diagnosis in a data pipeline environment
  • Experience in business case development and creation of financial memoranda
  • Experience of Price and Fundamental data use
  • Experience of developing dashboards using data visualisation tools such as Power BI & Tableau
  • Experience of leveraging and combining data from large data warehouses, optimising queries and consuming data from APIs
  • Experience of leading projects in excess of $3m annual spend
  • Ideally, experience of big data engineering environments
  • Experience in toolsets for agile delivery management and DevOps; for example Azure DevOps (ADO) or JIRA.
  • Cloud certification in Solution Architecture or Data; for AWS, Azure or Google
  • SQL or Python skills for analysis
  • PRINCE2 or PMP certification
  • Data migration delivery experience.
  • Familiarity with ETL concepts and solutions
  • Familiarity with streaming data solutions
  • STEM academic background

Experience of continuous integration/deployment and development techniques

Exposure to Apache Foundation and Modern Data Warehouse Technologies, and associated commercial frameworks. (e.g. Spark, Databricks).

In addition, you will have an:

  • Analytical mindset – data driven ability to problem solve and refine engineering requirements
  • Service oriented – understand principles of DevOps & ITIL and maintaining provision of products and services to consumers.
  • Attention to detail – focus on rigour and completeness of investigation, and consideration for the needs of BP customers
  • Be a good communicator – able to deliver messages effectively, with good verbal communication skills, and act as an independent voice within a collaborative team.
  • Be self-motivated and self-starting – able to work with little supervision and unfamiliar concepts quickly. Be confident in their judgement.
  • Delivery-Oriented Leadership – Able to lead ‘best practice’ over big data, analytics, engineering and platform delivery spaces, draw consumer parallels, and drive out implementation alignment between those capabilities
