Business Unit Director (mat cover 12 month FTC)

YOU ARE A LEADER; AND YOU HAVE IMPACT. You are seen by both the clients you lead and the people we have as a leader. You create the day-to-day culture and working practices with your direct and indirect reports. We see you grappling (and winning) with the challenges around clients’ business problems, the state of the client agency relationship and the quality of the agency output. You act in a way that always aligns to our vision and clearly communicate on that in everything you do.

You are seen as a peer to your senior clients, they call upon your wealth of experience to provide on-the-spot insights and solutions. You think and act quickly, and you’re comfortable dealing with ambiguity and hunch when you don’t have all the information you need.

You are passionate about advocating Disruption within the agency —you’re motivated to help clients and our people realise futures for their brands, companies and themselves. You are a source of excitement and new ideas.

You are a leader within the organisation and across departments, and you position your teams for success, address issues in real-time, and all emerge stronger as a result. And your focus on retention and growth for both talent and clients is rewarded with loyalty and outstanding creative and strategic deliverables.

YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO:

INSPIRE (15%)

  • Be seen as the client brand/assignment lead; and work alongside the agency leadership team to make the relationship as strong as possible.
  • Ensure you know where the agency assignment sits within the wider client business environment.
  • Ensuring that every assignment you manage has Disruption applied to it.
  • Ensure agency excellence through creative deliverables and cross functional working practices. This will need you to balance the needs of the agency with the needs of the client.

YOU WILL EXCEL BY:

  • Having clients directly refer you outside of RFPs for similar projects

YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO:

OVERSEE (25%)

  • Ensure that you get the very best from the entire team.
  • Make sure you exhibit situational leadership to make sure everyone has opportunities for engagement and a role with the client team
  • Have the closest working relationship with senior marketing leads at client level
  • Assign and align resource needs with staff availability, strengths, and developmental needs to maintain project and staff efficiency across multiple teams
  • Delegate tasks appropriately and to provide learning opportunities for members of your team

YOU WILL EXCEL BY:

  • Having a real sensitivity to chemistry and team casting

YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO:

LEAD (30%)

  • Manage team dynamics and set an example of leadership to foster a high-performing team on both pitch and incumbent business.
  • Deliver accurate regular forecasts and monthly projections while managing to the bottom line, ensuring profitability at benchmark, and identifying opportunities for revenue growth
  • Drive organic growth and foster a business-building orientation on account teams to meet and exceed agency revenue forecasts and secure new business
  • Engage in annual brand planning process to develop strategy and secure revenue for the upcoming year
  • Identify new initiatives for clients by promoting and pulling through all TBWA and OHG opportunities.

YOU WILL EXCEL BY:

  • Become the bridge between the agency leadership team and the agency at large

YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO:

DEVELOP (20%)

  • Forge strong client relationships with all levels of clients, extended client teams, OHG network partners, and other client vendors or associations. You must manage stakeholder relationships up, down and side-to-side.
  • Create a positive spirit and culture for your team members and your clients, so that all can flourish; and know the impact you have on your team.
  • Help direct reports set realistic goals, and provide opportunities for goal attainment

YOU WILL EXCEL BY:

  • Be seen as an authentic partner in multi-agency and consolidated assignments

YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO:

REACH (10%)

  • Connect to senior leadership with ongoing client, brand, and team challenges. Be an early warning beacon for client agency issues, and talent flight risks.
  • Understand the impact of industry trends and reports, evaluate client research, and lead the deeper understanding of how those will impact clients’ and our business.
  • Identify and lead opportunities for new client business and new pitches
  • Lead at least one internal agency initiative that connects you to our vision.

YOU WILL EXCEL BY:

  • Being seen as a leader cross departmentally.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

You are likely to be degree educated; but more importantly know how to apply the experiences you’ve had over the last 10 years to the benefit of the agency.

Your clients must see you as a leader and have that credibility immediately with them.

This is a full-time job; and will require all the things that go with it; you’ll be used to dashing for planes, and trains.

A foundational skill set defined by being able to balance the reality of leadership in a modern company. You’ll need to balance tensions and wrestle with paradoxes:

Be a leader and yet not yet be the Managing Partner

Have client needs and agency needs kept in equilibrium

Be focused on your team and be focused on your customer

Develop your people at the same time as growing the revenue

Work with independence yet be known for being a wonderful person to collaborate with

Champion creativity and maintain profitability

Be a source of new ideas and stay true to our core of Disruption

Be in command in the room but provide space for your people to soar
