Network Rail owns, manages and develops Britain's railway - the 20,000 miles of track, 40,000 bridges and viaducts, and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations (the largest of which we also run). In partnership with train operators we help people take more than 1.6bn journeys by rail every year - double the number of 1996 - and move hundreds of millions of tonnes of freight, saving almost 8m lorry journeys. We're investing £48bn in the railway by 2024 to deliver more frequent, more reliable, safer services and brighter and better stations.
The Safety, Technical & Engineering (STE) Group is to be called Technical Authority (TA) as of the 22nd June 2020 and will be providing strategy, policy and assurance as well as authoritative technical services to NR and the business in asset management, engineering, maintenance, operations, safety, health and wellness, quality, balanced development, security and information management.
Our key accountabilities are:
Innovate - Define and deliver national improvement programmes and commission research and development to achieve a better railway
Lead - Provide strategic leadership and guidance to Network Rail and external stakeholders
Assure - Assure Network Rail assets and safety performance by governing standards and frameworks and providing intelligence to support business improvement
Grow - Improve the health and vitality of all Network Rail employees, grow our capability by developing competency frameworks and aligning competencies to industry developments and using management information, audits and investigations to identify best practice and continuous improvement.
Protecting Network Rail's infrastructure from the activities associated with mining and quarrying is essential to keeping the railway safe. We have a dedicated Mining Engineering set up in support of safeguard the railway from any mining and quarrying risks whether it relates to an active mine or quarry or those that may now be abandoned.
We are looking to appoint a talented Mining Engineer to compliment the team on a permanent full time contract ; someone who can take responsibility for providing risk identification and mitigation advice.
This talented individual will come with a wealth of experience in the mining, minerals or quarrying sector where risk management is a key part of your role.Brief Description
To monitor the progress of mining and quarrying operations and prepare mining reports to enable policies to be determined for the protection Network Rail infrastructure.Assess and report on planning consultations for proposed development adjacent to railway property.About the role (External)
