Working alongside the Mental Health Act Manager, Consultant Psychiatrist, and the rest of the multidisciplinary team, you will be supporting the site and service users to ensure the least restrictive legal frameworks are managed.

As a Mental Health Act Administrator, your responsibilities will include assisting in the organisation of tribunals, section renewals and Hospital Manager appeal meetings for service users, including notifying all relevant parties, obtaining reports, negotiating hearing dates and providing/processing the appropriate documentation in line with statutory/local policies and procedures.

Ideally, you will some have experience/knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007) and its provisions. However, onsite training and support will be provided

Job Role - Mental Health Act Administrator

Location - Charlwood, Surrey (Near Gatwick Airport)

Salary - £22,000 pro rota

Hours - 37.5 hours per week, Full-Time

Your Responsibilities:

  • Providing various reports, letters, and other correspondence for meetings if required.
  • Receiving and scrutinising statutory documentation.
  • Ensuring that errors are rectified within the legal timescale.
  • Providing information to qualifying service users about their right to access Independent Mental Health Advocacy Services (IMHA)
  • Monitoring and recording changes in legal status and appropriate documentation.
  • Informing Consultants and nursing staff of legal requirements relating to detained service users, ie renewal of sections, consent to treatment etc.
  • Maintaining accurate data concerning the use of the Mental Health Act on the Company's IT system.
  • Following up MHA action points included in the Care Quality Commission reports submitted following visits to clinical areas within the remit of the post.
  • To undertake monthly audits
  • To manage data subject access requests relating to tribunals and managers hearings

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Competent PC skills, including MS Word and Excel.
  • Active experience in audit and compliance
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to adapt a flexible working approach.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads.
  • Able to work on own initiative and make decisions to take responsibility where appropriate.
  • To be able to read, understand, interpret and apply relevant legislation and current case law relating to the Act.

Where you will be working

Location: Farmfield Drive, Charlwood, Surrey, RH6 0BN

You will be working at Farmfield Hospital, which is a large purpose-built medium-secure service with good facilities. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will provide care and support for adult men 18+ with a forensic background and enduring mental health illnesses such as personality disorder, substance misuse issues and behaviours that challenge.

The hospital has a new state-of-the-art extension across 2 wards, providing care and support for 24 adults who have enduring acute mental health conditions.

Farmfield is located North West of Gatwick airport near the village of Hookwood, with good transport links by road, bus and train. It is easiest to reach the site by car.
