The University of Warwick is seeking applications for a Senior Teaching Fellow to be part of a growing team of expert academics on its unique and innovative BASc in Global Sustainable Development degrees. Our team of academics are active researchers and experienced teachers with a shared mission to educate a new generation of students who believe in solutions-focused thinking.

For this particular role we are looking for a colleague with expertise in Global Sustainable Development and with a Business and/or Economics background. Specific expertise in any of the following areas would be an asset: Energy Sector, Green Growth, Innovation, Social Enterprise. We welcome applications from individuals who can design and deliver modules that engage our diverse student population thus, a good knowledge of pedagogy around Education for Sustainability would be an asset. We particularly encourage applications from academics whose expertise relates to geographical areas which are currently under-represented in our curriculum. The successful candidate will be responsible for convening and delivering an existing optional core/core module, as well as teaching on the first year module "Economic Principles of Global Sustainable Development". They will also be expected to design additional modules that reflect their own expertise and intellectual interests.

As a Senior Teaching Fellow you will use your knowledge of a range of teaching, learning and assessment strategies to develop high quality teaching materials which you will deliver on modules of the course. You will be experienced in delivering interdisciplinary teaching, with a specific emphasis on the field of Global Sustainable Development. We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed colleague who is passionate about making every aspect of our students' experience of learning relevant and valuable. We welcome applications from academic colleagues whose work cuts across the three pillars of Sustainable Development (Economic, Social, Environmental) and who engage with the importance of Good Governance as a necessary fourth pillar. We particularly welcome applications from individuals who have been historically under-represented in academia.

The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher and communicator with a sound subject knowledge, able to stimulate and enthuse students from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds and with a desire to contribute to the development of Sustainable Development Education both at Warwick and beyond.


Working with other academic staff associated with the course to:

  • undertake the range of academic duties required to deliver high quality teaching on the course;
  • contribute to the overall course content through the development and design of appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment materials that utilize a variety of pedagogic approaches;
  • develop and deliver modules within your own area of expertise that enrich the existing academic provision of interdisciplinary teaching
  • supervise student research, and foster a research-led teaching culture within the department
  • contribute to and share knowledge of Global Sustainable Development through the creation of internal networks and external contacts aimed at developing and enhancing the reputation of the University within this academic field.


  • To teach core modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels: designing and developing innovative and appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment techniques and material, which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students;
  • To propose and develop new undergraduate and postgraduate modules within your own field of expertise;
  • To supervise dissertations, projects, field trips, as required;
  • To undertake the range of duties associated with teaching academic modules including delivering content, setting and marking assessments, and providing feedback and academic support to students in accordance with the University's requirements and guidelines;
  • Through engagement in appropriate scholarly activities, to develop links with external contacts such as other academics, educational and research bodies, employers, professional bodies and other providers of relevant initiatives,
  • To develop networks and gain and share knowledge of Global Sustainable Development, with a view to enhancing the Warwick offer and increasing the University's reputation as a provider of excellent degree programmes and an exceptional student experience;
  • To contribute to a range of outreach and promotional events to raise awareness of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses and enhance recruitment (e.g. Open Days, Offer Holder Days, Widening Participation events);
  • To act as Personal Tutor for students carrying out the functions of a Personal Tutor in accordance with the University's Guidelines;
  • To understand equal opportunity issues as they impact upon areas of teaching;
  • To carry out regular and routine administration associated with teaching and research activity as required by the University's procedures and its students (for example student attendance and engagement monitoring, attendance at and participation in Exam Boards);
  • To contribute to the efficient operation and administration of the degrees: by performing administrative duties as allocated by the Head of School;
  • To participate in quality assurance mechanisms by contributing to a regular module evaluation processes designed to review the operation of modules, responding to student feedback on modules, and suggesting changes aimed at improving module effectiveness;
  • To ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of work and, when appropriate, undertake risk assessments.
