Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly and supportive rotational team. This essential role provides the opportunity for a committed Pharmacy Technician to put their skills into practice, working between the dispensary, aseptic unit, ward and purchasing, whilst also continuing to build and develop new skills for future career progression.

We are looking for highly ambitious candidates with excellent organizational skills, prioritisation skills, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, who are motivated to support others and able to work under pressure whilst ensuring accuracy in all aspects of pharmacy for patient centered care. We welcome Pharmacy Technicians joining from other sectors and offer ACPT and other training as appropriate.

You will be expected to participate in the extended hour’s rota.

Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians qualifying within the next 6 months are eligible to apply.

Please note that this is a 12 month fixed term maternity cover contract.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Accurately identify, select, label using Meditech, dispense and distribute drugs (including controlled drugs) for in and outpatients prescriptions according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Take part in counselling and in the provision of information on medicines to patients, doctors and other health care staff.
  • Carry out reception duties, involving dealing with patients, relatives and handling prescription charges/crediting unused medicines.
  • Accurately provide a ward based medicine management service following local policy liaising with the ward team, patients, pharmacist, dispensary and any outside providers to ensure medicines are safely stored at all times.
  • To assist with basic purchasing, maintenance and control of stock levels for all facilities using purchasing and inventory systems.
  • To co-ordinate and assist in receiving Pharmacy stock (medical and non-medical) against the orders placed for all Pharmacy locations
  • To participate in aseptic preparation and manufacturing in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice, COSSH regulations, current legislation/guidelines and policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Skills & experience

  • Pharmacy NVQ3, BTech or equivalent
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Hospital based post qualification experience desirable Aseptic experience is desirable
  • Meditech, BD Cato, or Omnicell experience is desirable Understanding of inventory control and purchasing is desirable
  • Accredited Checking experience desirable Hospital
