Here at Babcock International, we're seeking an experienced Monitoring Analyst maintain and enhance the functionality of the suite of tools necessary to monitor the IT infrastructure platforms in use across Babcock International Group.

Working with a highly motivated, autonomous and experienced team, this Monitoring Analyst will be required to:

  • Perform administrative tasks from the System Centre Operations Manager (SCOM) console
  • Operate the monitoring infrastructure, maintaining its effectiveness and confirming its accuracy
  • Ensure production infrastructure is monitored and enhance operational capability of adopted monitoring products
  • Identify monitoring gaps, potential blind spots and work with additional teams to obtain maximum coverage
  • Detect poor performing areas and liaise with operational and project teams in order to formulate a solution
  • Support operations staff with high level fault management and rectification across the infrastructure
  • Support operations staff with high level administration tasks across the infrastructure as required and dictated by best practice
  • Production of operational and technical documentation to agreed standards
  • Any other duties as deemed necessary to achieve department goals

Key Outputs/Deliverables:

  • Monitoring infrastructure maintained to agreed standards
  • Meet SLAs and KPIs
  • Operational & Technical documentation produced to agreed standards
  • Verify third party output / quality of output

What do I need to do the role?

The role would ideally suit an individual who has Systems Administration experience supported by Microsoft Operations Manager within a Windows Server environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

Working knowledge and operational experience of the following would be great:

  • Demonstrable strong analytical / troubleshooting skills (Essential)
  • Technical troubleshooting skills within large IT infrastructure environments
  • Ability to connect disparate data elements in order to identify patterns of behaviour
  • Microsoft Windows Systems Administrator / Microsoft Infrastructure Engineer
  • Ability to create / customise monitoring scripts
  • Willingness to learn new tools and processes
  • Experience using security information and event management (SIEM) tools

Technical and Specialist Knowledge:

  • System Center Operations Manager SCOM
  • Windows 7, 10, Server 2012 R2, 2016 and 2019 operating systems
  • Active Directory / Group Policy / DNS / SQL Server / Network Infrastructure / VMWARE
  • Dash boarding / reporting tools / SSRS
  • PowerShell
  • TCP/IP and other commonly used protocols such as SMTP, HTTP
  • Ability to produce operational and technical reference documentation

What else do I need to know?

This role is based in Lakeside, Portsmouth. A vibrant and accessible campus that has shops, restaurants, hairdressers and a nursery on site. It has parking for employees and runs a free shuttle bus from city centre trains and bus stops.

As a condition of your recruitment, you will need to have or be able to obtain SC level clearance and be willing to obtain DV level clearance upon completion of a six-month probationary period.

Ability to travel to other sites is required.
