To provide a timely and high-quality service to external and internal customers relating to analysing credit risks across a variety of companies and products, for Close Brothers Premium Finance (‘CBPF’) and proposing exposures for acceptance by Managers/Directors/Bank and/or Credit Committees.
Reporting directly to the Senior Credit Manager, the role requires the preparation and approval of papers for large transactions, with a view to winning good-quality, high-value business at an acceptable return whilst providing excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders. A key requirement is the ability to identify and propose appropriate solutions to minimise and mitigate risks. It includes liaising with brokers, clients and other internal departments to ensure a smooth process and good knowledge levels across the business. The role has some delegated power to sign off and recommend deals reporting as necessary to the Head of Underwriting.
Approve large commercial loans under own underwriting authority (up to £500k as authorised and subject to capability). Able to read, interpret and extract the key points and trends from an annual report and accounts on corporate customers together with the ability to prepare detailed accurate written credit analysis and recommendations. Produce comprehensive but succinct credit papers of a quality which can be presented to the Chief Credit Risk Officer and Group Credit Committee for approval. Liaise directly with brokers and clients, creating enduring relationships based on trust and excellent customer service. Liaise with key staff to ensure approvals are delivered in a timely manner. Ensure detailed management information is maintained on approvals as required. Support the analysis, underwriting and monitoring of Insurance companies and develop knowledge on the insurance industry. Research the web and financial media for appropriate supporting information. Liaise with the sales team? with a view to quoting and winning larger transaction business at an acceptable margin and ROE, taking into account commercial aspects and overall customer view. Proactively seek large value business through brokers. Portfolio administration, ensure files are up to date to include but not limited to credit papers, approvals and GCC minutes where appropriate, accounts, Experian reports, Management information and covenant reviews. Undertake broker/client visits as required. Assist, when requested, with training/coaching of junior team members. Keep Team Head informed of workflow and credit decisions as appropriate. Refer any deals outside own discretion to the Head of Underwriting with credit recommendation to make an informed lending decision. Deal with errors and or complaints in accordance with current polices/rules Any other reasonable ad hoc requests relating to credit issues. Maintain CBPF’s compliance with all applicable regulations; this includes ensuring that CBPF is always compliant with the FCA principles for Treating Customers Fairly. Ensure that all Governance and Compliance requirements are adhered to and all reporting and reviewing activities required by the Regulatory Bodies are carried out to the standards required. Escalate issues and process gaps where identified to the line manager, while developing a knowledge of the risks posed by both the operational environment and the conduct of the bank.
