£33,797 to £40,322 per annum, pro rata
UEA has some of the most innovative and highly regarded centres for research in the UK. Applications are invited for the post of Senior Research Associate to undertake research in collaboration with Professor Keith M. Johnston in order to study “International Amateur Cinema Between the Wars (1919-1939)”, which is funded through a Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Partnership Development Grant.
The successful applicant will be involved in original historical and archival research, identifying and providing information on pioneering UK-based amateur filmmakers, the films they produced, and the communities and circumstances they worked within; they will expand the available records on the Amateur Cinema Database, investigate related publications for digitisation, and understand how the history of UK amateur filmmaking relates to, and interacts with, a broader international cohort of amateur work. The research will be based at the University of East Anglia in the School of Art, Media and American Studies
You will have a PhD in a relevant field of the Humanities, along with significant previous experience of independent research and significant research experience working with film and media archives, and associated film and paper materials. You should also have excellent oral and written communication skills, experience of presenting and writing-up research results for publication in peer-viewed books, conferences and/or journals, and be able to meet all the essential criteria set out in the Person Specification.
This post is available on a part-time (0.2FTE) basis from 1 September 2020 to 28 February 2022.
