Commercial Director

We are looking for an experienced agency Commercial Director to head up new business, commercial partnerships and client account growth. This new hands-on role will work closely with the Managing Director and other leadership team members to drive agency growth, building on the agency’s strong brand and reputation for high-quality digital work.

We deliver transformational digital work across a wide variety of sectors - and you’ll be a vital part of helping us build on our strong reputation and develop our business further. You’ll help clients develop valuable new projects through a consultative and engaging approach to business development as well as help identify and win new accounts.

The role is based in our Kent office and will involve some travel to clients as required.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Refining and implementing the company’s sales strategy.
  • Take ownership of the management of the sales and marketing functions of the
  • business.
  • Meeting with the sales and marketing team regularly to assess company performance against KPI’s.
  • Keeping a close eye on the sales activities of competitors and utilising ideas where appropriate.
  • Implementing a variety of new business initiatives to drive sales.
  • Negotiating agreements for contracts with customers and ensuring commerciality.
  • Provide market feedback to the company leadership regarding competitive offerings,
  • prospect needs and generate product development ideas.
  • Working to stringent targets, the job holder will be required to adopt a professional and knowledgeable approach to each new business opportunity.
  • Planning and coordinating the implementation of business plans and the penetration of new markets.

Who we are looking for

  • Previous experience working as a Business Development Director or Commercial Director ideally for a similar organisation.
  • Natural leader with an ability to inspire performance with sales and client services teams.
  • Strong commercial outlook and an entrepreneurial approach to business development.
  • Formal sales training would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales growth and delivery of results to business plans.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, proven track record of successfully pitching for new business
  • Proven ability to work with clients in developing fresh strategies and digital transformation solutions
  • Proven ability to build and develop Client Services teams

Overall Company Targets

We want to become a UK Top 100 Agency in the next 3 years. That means a net billables target of around £4.2M. This role will be vital in building the team and processes to achieve this target as part of the management team.

Current average order values:

  • Digital Transformation Project: £100,000 - £250,000+
  • Website Project or MVP Product Development: £50,000 - £150,000+
  • Digital Marketing Retainer (12 months): £60,000 - £360,000+ pa
  • Consultancy & Strategy: £20,000+
  • Reporting & Analytics: £10,000+


You will report directly into the MD on a daily basis, with a monthly report for the board. There will be a quarterly strategic review, but this is an agile role within a small organisation, so we anticipate direct daily communication as required.
