You get that learning starts with the user. You understand there's been a shift from e-learning to resources and experiences. You love creating podcasts, video, checklists, stories, useful content and finding quick solutions for stakeholders. You will have expert writing and proofing skills. You will already know how to use learning authoring tools and you strive to learn new ways of creating useful content.

If this sounds like you, Sainsbury's have a rare opportunity to join our Learning Design Team as a Learning Solutions Developer. In this role you will develop and curate a wide range of different learning resources and experiences that will engage colleagues across our Sainsbury's brands including Argos, Habitat, Nectar, Sainsbury's Bank and Argos Financial Services. What success looks like?

  • A natural collaborator who thrives on working with others e.g. Graphic Designers, Learning Technology Specialists etc. but is also comfortable working independently
  • Excellent understanding of the theoretical principles that underpin the design of great learning resources and experiences including the psychology of how people learn, 5di, user-centred design, agile, and design thinking
  • Able to develop learning solutions that tell a story, to depict and invite action and stimulate curiosity
  • Fantastic attention to detail and commitment to testing, trialling, observing and re-developing solutions to ensure a great end user experience
  • Building and maintaining great working relationships within the business and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time within expected deadlines
  • Motivated by the variety that comes from working on multiple projects simultaneously and at pace, planning workload, time and commitments effectively
What you'll be doing
  • Work closely with the Learning Design Leads, the Learning Consultants and business stakeholders to understand current and ongoing business performance challenges and how it is envisaged these can be addressed with learning solutions
  • Contribute essential creative and technical input to the development of design proposals and Statement of Works (SOW) documents
  • Develop and/or curate a wide range of learning resources and experiences (digital, print etc.) in partnership with intended end users and the wider team (Learning Consultants, Graphic Designers, Media Developers, Learning Technology Specialists etc.), taking account of existing solutions, business and technological practicalities
  • Pilot, trial and test solutions with end users and in platforms, iterating and re-developing to ensure they are fit for purpose and work as intended
  • Update and re-develop existing learning resources and experiences including revisions and continuous improvement activities
  • Communicate and partner effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and colleagues, keeping others well informed and taking time to listen to stakeholders and act on feedback
  • Confidently utilise business and learning data to assess the impact of learning solutions on desired performance improvement outcomes to inform development decisions
  • Ensure all learning and development principles and processes are adhered to, whilst prioritising own workload to ensure projects are delivered on time and in line with project plans
  • Work effectively with third party providers to collaboratively develop learning solutions, when required
  • Maintain a clear focus on personal professional development, to ensure Sainsbury's learning solutions are leading edge
What you need to know and show
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and editing/re-developing learning resources (checklists, guides, decision trees, FAQs, quick start guides, "how tos", toolkits etc.) that effectively support performance at the point of need
  • Able to develop learning solutions that tell a story, to depict and invite action and stimulate curiosity
  • Able to take input from a range of sources, applying critical analysis skills and creative techniques to create and/or curate clear and compelling materials for a wide range of delivery mechanisms and audiences.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and editing/re-developing learning experiences (games, immersive scenarios, assessments, observations, simulations, workshops, action learning groups etc.) that challenge attitudes, stimulate behaviour change and enable practice to support skill development
  • Confident developing materials for multiple delivery platforms and resilient in the face of the daily challenges posed by technologies (Learning Management Systems and Learning Experience Platforms, WebEx, Skype, Yammer, Teams, SharePoint, web pages, apps, AI recommendation engines etc.)
  • Brilliant technical capability with a range of software e.g. Articulate Storyline 360 & Rise, Adapt, Captivate, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office and an interest in exploring the application of AR and VR technologies
  • Ability to develop materials in a range of formats and for a range of delivery modes which may include SCORM and xAPI, webinars, face to face events, podcasts, print etc.
  • Excellent people engagement skills, to engage end users in the development process, including running trials and developing iteratively
  • Ability to work well under pressure; effectively handle tight deadlines, ambiguity, unexpected delays, revisions, ad hoc requests and changing priorities
  • Strong administrative skills to maintain effective version control, storage and archiving in line with team processes
