Hours: Thursday, Friday and Monday 12.45 – 21.45, Saturday and Sunday 11.30 -20.30
Basis: Full time permanent
The Carlisle laboratory carries out microbiological testing for a wide range of food and water clients. The site is UKAS and RSA approved. We currently have a vacancy for a Microbiologist to join the team working in the Food Laboratory.
The Microbiologist reports to the Section Heads in the Food Laboratory and is responsible for carrying out general microbiology work including plate counting, identification and confirmation testing and ELISA based testing.
Duties also include entering and approving results and providing practical and theoretical training in microbiology work.
This is an opportunity for the successful candidates to extend and develop their technical knowledge to include a range of microbiological tests and to contribute to the quality and level of client service provided by the site.
Candidates should be educated to HNC level, or equivalent in Microbiology or a related science subject or have experience within a microbiology laboratory. Theoretical and practical knowledge of microbiology analysis across a range of microbiological procedures is required together with a good understanding of quality systems.
Due to the high throughput of samples applicants must be able to work flexibly to tight time frames and to work well in a team. A methodical approach and a good aptitude for detail is required.
Familiarity with computers is essential including the use of Microsoft office packages. Experience with using ALimS or a LIMS would be an advantage although full training can be provided.
