Description

About us

The Local Government Association represents local government in England and Wales. The LGA aims to set the political agenda and have a say in the national media on the issues that matter to council members.

The role

The LGA has a strong track record on leading the debate on environmental issues, including waste and recycling services. This is a key moment for local government as significant reform is proposed for these services, at a time of increased financial pressure on council public concern over the quality of the environment. Can you bring your skills to this role to secure lasting benefits for local government?

You will use your political awareness, excellent communication, policymaking and project management skills to shape policy, to advocate on behalf of the LGA and its members.

Drawing on the experience of our member councils you will assess the implications of different policy options and develop proposals that help to support and improve local government, enabling it to deliver the best possible services for local residents.

You will provide support to our boards and members, preparing briefings, papers and speeches.

Our policy team works closely with colleagues in media & public affairs and the LGA’s political group offices, as well as with external partners and central government.

The successful candidate will work as part of a small team and closely with colleagues in media and public affairs to help support, promote and improve local government across a range of projects.

The requirements

You will have the knowledge, experience and credibility to engage with government and organisations from across the public, private and voluntary sectors. You will be able to take a strategic, forward-looking approach and will have the political awareness to contribute to the development of effective relationships with the LGA’s political groups as well as with external partners and national government.

Engaging with government and organisations from across the public, private, and voluntary sectors, you must have excellent communication skills.

Please note the Job Description is generic, with details of the role outlined above.
