Kent House Hospital School is an independent co-educational day school for young people aged 12 to 18 with mental health challenges. Our students are all inpatients at Kent House Hospital, a Low Secure CAMHS service in St Mary Cray, Orpington. We have a team of specialist teachers and teaching assistants who deliver education to all young people at the hospital.

It is our intention that every student develops their courage, determination and skills as a learner, so they can re-engage confidently with their education on discharge. We liaise with mainstream schools and colleges and each young person has an individualised curriculum plan in each subject area, with progress being closely monitored. We offer a broad based academic and enrichment curriculum, with specialist teaching spaces, teaching technologies and outdoor spaces.

This embraces both academic and vocational subjects. Accreditation is framed in line with national benchmarks and encourages independent and group learning, to foster self-belief and resilience. Safeguarding and supporting the young person’s individual needs are paramount to our ethos of recovery through supported and aspirational learning. Whilst in our care, young people have access to nationally accredited study pathways including Functional Skills, GCSE and A Level.
