Validation Engineer - Farnborough / £48k + Benefits

The primary function of the Validation Engineer is to lead all testing and validation activities that form a fundamental part of our Customer-Back Innovation programmes. The role works closely with our Research and Development teams to create, execute, document and report on testing protocols for all software and equipment, and identifies and mitigates technical risks in the company’s products prior to release to market. It is a key role to support the delivery goals for new product development and undertakes all activities to validate our latest software and equipment, ultimately to ensure the expected quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares, documents, executes, and reports on testing protocols and plans for all software and equipment
  • Defines and leads activities to identify and mitigate technical risks with new developments and works collaboratively with the development teams to solve technical challenges
  • Translates requirements, develops user cases and testing plans and subsequently undertakes verification and validation of all software and equipment
  • Oversees all validation activity and project manages any resources required, ensuring that all testing and validation is delivered on time to support product introductions
  • Accountable for the technical leadership of any validation activity in supporting the delivery goals for innovation / product development programmes
  • Documents all validation activity and reports on it
  • Raises new bugs/issues within the appropriate systems/databases and works with the development team to prioritize resolution
  • Day to day management of issue tracking/ testing systems/ databases and records, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information
  • Works with the development team to ensure that external certification and necessary approvals are in place based on the delivery goals of the project
  • Co-ordinates customer feedback sessions, field trials and BETA-site testing, producing the necessary documentation, managing logistics and communications, and ensuring that all feedback is documented and reported on
  • Works to gain an in-depth understanding of customer and user interaction with products that can be fed into both development of products and the testing protocols
  • Operates with a continuous improvement methodology, ensuring the appropriate processes, tools and techniques are developed and adopted
  • Tracks, analyses and reports on any identified key performance indicators and metrics
  • Advocates ITW 80/20 and other toolbox standards / initiatives into everything we do
  • In addition to the duties listed above, the position holder must carry out tasks assigned by their supervisor that are essentially related to their duties.

Position Requirements (e.g. training, experience, education etc.):

  • Educated to at least degree level in a Science or Engineering subject and have at substantial experience in an appropriate engineering environment (capital equipment, instrumentation, machinery, aerospace, etc.)
  • Experience and technical proficiency in software tools and technology, such as Microsoft Office, JIRA, Test Rail, Trello, Microsoft Project, Basecamp, or equivalents
  • Demonstrable experience of verification and validation techniques, particularly gained around testing of software/ UI or associated control systems
  • Direct experience of validating and testing hardware/machinery
  • Advanced at creating clear and concise written documents and reports
  • Must be detail oriented, have exceptional time and project management skills, and be able to prioritize in a constantly changing environment
  • High level of initiative, energy, and self-motivation with the ability to work well with a strong team
  • Hands on approach, with good leadership and people/ influencing skills to get things done
  • Highly numerate with strong technical and analytical skills
  • Good communication and presentation skills, can interact well with both internal and external parties
  • Good mental agility – can quickly learn new products, tools and techniques
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally on short trips when required
