Job Description

We are looking for a full time, fixed term Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (internally this job is known as Domestic Abuse Support Worker) to join the Family Safety Unit within Wirral Borough Council on secondment. As an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate, you will be supporting a high-quality front line service to victims of domestic abuse, delivering a service to those at the highest risk.

Our service supports victims and survivors of domestic abuse and children living in abusive situations, as well as supporting young people who use violence in their relationships due to their exposure to domestic abuse. This service gives children and young people that have lived or are living with domestic abuse opportunities to share their thoughts and feelings in a safe environment.

As a support worker, you will work with our small team to provide information, advice and direct support to families via one-to-one and group work.

As Independent Domestic Violence Advocate your main duties will include:

  • Delivering group work with Parents that experience domestic abuse and children and young people that are or have experienced domestic abuse
  • Maintaining case management records through service management information systems and assisting in the provision of regular written case studies/reports to commissioners and management.
  • Attending meetings to share information and advocate for service users
  • Sharing all relevant information with appropriate agencies to allow a multi-agency response to the client and family.
  • Attending court and supporting clients through the criminal justice system, working with CPS, Witness care and Witness Support Service.
  • Offering service users new semi-therapeutic models of delivery that can have an impact on their emotional well-being.
  • Managing volunteers and social work students on placement within the provision
  • Ensuring that protocols regarding child protection, confidentiality, equality of opportunity and risk management are maintained at all times.
