Rutherford Briant are currently recruiting for an Accounts Junior position within a Top 20 firm in Huntingdon. This position would be a great opportunity for anybody that is AAT part-qualified, looking to kick-start an accountancy career with a top firm.

Responsibilities

The following list of responsibilities is not designed to be exclusive, but serves to illustrate the scope of the role.

  • daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly bookkeeping
  • uploading transactions and allocating within the accounting system (SAGE, Quickbooks and Xero)
  • processing sales invoices, receipts and payments
  • balancing accounts
  • reconciling bank accounts and other ledger accounts
  • maintaining bank feeds
  • using auto entry/receipt bank in respect of processing transactions
  • completing month end adjustments such as Accruals, Prepayments and posting depreciation
  • maintaining fixed asset registers, and ensuring additions and disposals are correctly recorded and any profit or loss on disposal is recognised correctly
  • preparing VAT returns
  • preparing CIS returns
  • preparing management accounts, and providing appropriate commentary on significant variances
  • preparing a year end file with supporting documentation for the preparation of statutory year-end accounts
  • meet clients’ requirements, and ensure deadlines are meet and accounts and VAT returns are completed on time.
  • task ownership, taking responsibility for delivery, cost control and billing
  • involvement in productising, marketing and selling services to clients
  • development of new revenue streams for the firm relating to tax services
  • providing basic training to new staff members / existing staff on new issues
  • problem solving including system / control development on tax matters
Requirements
  • an ability to work quickly and accurately
  • an eye for detail
  • an ability to work to deadlines
  • an ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism
  • good computer skills (especially with databases and financial software) previous use of Xero essential
  • an ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, in English
  • must be able to keep client matters strictly confidential
  • solid knowledge of basic accounting and financial principles and practices
  • good analytical and numerical abilities
  • practice experience is highly desirable but not essential.
