We have an opportunity for an Optometrist to join their team of staff in the Ophthalmology department.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Post registration experience
  • Post graduate theoretical & practical knowledge and experience within the highly specialist field of hospital optometry and ophthalmology
  • BSc (Hons) degree in Optometry. General Optical Council registered.
  • Demonstrates clear evidence of ongoing professional development Knowledge of clinical issues and their implications for practice
  • Ability to communicate complex and at times sensitive information to patients and other professional groups.
  • To liaise with varying levels of the multi-disciplinary team. Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to demonstrate high level of organisational skills. Ability to problem solve, anticipate and forward plan. Evidence of self-development.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

Duties of this role include:

  • To assist in the optometry service within the Hospital to the highest standards of quality and care.
  • Working with the consultant body supporting the ophthalmology clinic, low vision aid clinic where applicable; stable glaucoma care, postoperative cataract clinics and stable age-related macular degeneration (AMD) clinics.
  • To participate in and help develop the optometry service.
  • Working towards agreed objectives and demonstrating BMI behaviours at all time.
  • To assess both new and review patients as decided by the consultant. Many of these patients will have suspected wet ARMD. However, a variety of other ocular conditions may affect patients in these clinics such as macula oedema secondary to vein occlusion etc.
  • To undertake a detailed ophthalmic assessment of the patient
