Consultant Physician in Stroke Medicine

Recent service pathway and SSNAP rating improvements in the Department of Stroke Medicine mean that this replacement post provides an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking and flexible individual to join the current multi-disciplinary team and contribute actively to the ongoing change management programme to improve and maintain effective patient-centred stroke services.

The Portsmouth Stroke Service has good support from the Management and Executive teams, and there is a significant opportunity for the post holder to be able to positively influence change and shape future services. This post also provides substantial personal educational and leadership development opportunities and will include access to a consultant mentor if desired. The department is actively involved in Stroke research.

Post holders are actively encouraged to participate in relevant service improvement projects, audits, research and to represent the Stroke service at Royal College level and/or nationally. Job plans are discussed and reviewed annually. The post holder needs to be flexible, as changes to working patterns may occur in future years.

As an experienced Consultant Physcian Stroke you would ideally have:

• MBBS, MBChB or equivalent
• MRCP or equivalent
• Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Stroke Medicine OR with any appropriate speciality
• Entry on Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESR or European
  Community Rights
• Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with licence to practice
