Automation Engineer

Overview

We are looking to build and scale an Automation capability within our DevOps, Platform Delivery and Networks functions.

Automation Engineers will collaborate closely with colleagues in Software Release, SRE, Platform Delivery (Networks, Database and Systems) and IT Services to increase levels of Automation and Tooling with a particular focus on cross-team processes and services to help drive forward our vision for a modern, flexible set of platforms

We have four separate vacancies:

Software Release

Software Release supports the Software Development function and will deal with the compilation and delivery of bespoke applications from Software Configuration Management (SCM) through to release into Production - a set of responsibilities made increasingly complex due to the different platforms and solutions that the products are written in.

The team is responsible for; Test Environment Management, Releases Management and ownership of the Regulatory Versioning application. The support and maintenance of the appropriate source control and orchestration tools / applications also fits within Software Release accountability.

Platform Delivery Role

The Infrastructure Delivery Department is split into several teams. As bet365 scales in size and complexity, automation is essential in all of these teams.

Successful applicants for the Infrastructure Automation team will be champions for automation using Infrastructure as Code principals and tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Chef and Puppet.

The Automation team are responsible for engineering a callable API and the required underlying orchestration for the deployment and provision of Infrastructure resources. Integrating with a wide portfolio of services running on virtualised, container and private cloud platforms.

DevOps Role

Many teams within Technology have an automation capability which automate their processes and expose these to other teams via callable API. Subsequently we have identified a need to create a separate Automation team that will focus on orchestrating these API in order to build tooling to automate end-to-end processes across teams.

Successful applicants will have the ability to work with engineers across multiple teams in order to design and build tooling which will aid and advance agility within Technology. They will work alongside our existing SRE and Software Release teams to build bespoke software utilising technologies such as Go, Python, C#, SQL, Jenkins.

Networks Role

You'll be writing automation to drive our internal network and global CDN, providing abstractions across numerous technology types to support integrations across the business. You'll help design and build software using Python, including Flask and Paramiko packages.

Main Responsibilities

• Working with automation and orchestration platforms (e.g. Ansible, Jenkins), to automate manual activity and processes.
• Developing bespoke in-house tooling, using a range of technologies to aid colleagues across Infrastructure and the rest of Technology in the completion of their duties (e.g. Javascript, GoLang, Python, Powershell, Groovy).
• Working with varied teams to consume and/or build APIs for their services in end-to-end department wide processes.
• Collaborating with colleagues across Infrastructure to determine requirements and solutions, to solve problems and progress work.

Preferred skills and experience

• Must have experience working in either an Infrastructure team (Network, Server) or a Software Development team.
• Strong working knowledge of automation tooling and best practice.
• Strong working knowledge of Procedural Programming (e.g. Javascript, GoLang, Python, Powershell) and SQL.
• Experience with Automation and Orchestration platforms (e.g. Ansible, Jenkins).
• Experience and knowledge of Windows and Linux operating system stacks.
• Solid understanding of automation principles and tools such as Git, Jira, Docker, Ansible, Artifactory, AWX, Jenkins, Chef, CI/CD.
• Experience in collecting and visualising metric and log data using tools such as Splunk and Elastic.
• Experience building and consuming APIs.
• Excellent issue investigation and diagnosis abilities.
• Keen interest in industry trends, particularly DevOps.
