The National Chemical Emergency Centre (NCEC), founded over 40 years ago, is the market leading provider of chemical emergency response services globally, dealing with over 4,000 emergency calls a year on behalf of over 550 companies, including 50% of the largest chemical manufacturers in the world. Alongside the emergency response services, we also offer a range of regulatory compliance services (including REACH, SDS authoring, CLP, Poison Centres, SCIP), software packages, as well as training and consultancy in chemical risk assessment, crisis management. We also work closely with our Policy team in securing and delivering work relating to chemicals from national and European regulatory bodies. This role is to join the regulatory team as a senior consultant in our EU and UK REACH product area – an important and growing part of our business.
Today NCEC is part of Ricardo PLC’s subsidiary company, Ricardo Energy & Environment; a leading sustainability consultancy combining energy, climate change, air quality, transport, water, environmental and our chemical risk expertise with strong marketing, IT and economics capability.
One of our fastest growing areas is that of EU REACH and UK REACH regulatory consultancy. This covers all aspects of the regulations, but in particular registration and only representative (OR) support, as well as ongoing regulatory compliance and evaluation of substances. NCEC is seen as experts in this field, and we see a key opportunity from Brexit to catalyse and accelerate our growth in this area. We have work to deliver and an excellent pipeline of opportunities and are looking for the right person to come and play a leading role in our activity in this area which we have high ambitions for. Alongside the REACH team we have Safety Data Sheet authoring and Poison Centres teams that collectively support to companies to manage risks and ensure compliance with chemical supply regulations.
The REACH Specialist will be responsible for delivery of all aspects of our (EU and UK) REACH business reporting to our Business Area Management. The role includes; Understanding the regulatory landscape and being an expert in this field Maintaining and delivering our broad suite of EU REACH regulatory work, partnering and supporting clients to anticipate and address new compliance needs and continuously improving internal processes to improve quality and efficiency Delivery of a full suite of UK REACH support services, including grandfathering, downstream user import notification (DUIN), only representative (OR), dossier preparation and registration services, plus other support as needed, to a broad client base Supporting companies to maintain compliance with EU REACH throughout ongoing developments of Brexit, EU Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability, etc. Supporting sales and marketing efforts through the development of offerings, training and supporting the sales team, development and delivery of presentations, webinars, white papers, website and social media content Keeping the business and wider team of stakeholders up-to-speed with progress, seeking support and guidance as required
Key competencies and experience:
* Have strong background in REACH and preferably other regulations/areas, e.g. GHS/CLP, safety data sheet authoring, transport, Poison Centres * Educated to degree level in a related discipline (e.g. chemistry) * Experience working in similar roles in either industry, regulatory or consultancy settings. Experience working within industry consortia and/or trade associations an advantage * Excellent project management and customer management skills, allowing you to manage our clients proactively, delivering excellence and winning repeat business * An independent self-starter able to manage one’s own workload but also work collaboratively and effectively within a team * Be an excellent communicator and used to presenting your ideas and project outputs to customers and ideally at regulatory conferences, at events or through webinars, blogs etc * Keep up to date with market trends and developments and provide technical support to colleagues in the development of business strategy and new service offerings * Have the ability to manage and influence people effectively and/ or delegate work to others
