You will ideally be a qualified teaching assistant or a confident graduate with a strong academic background looking for a career in education. A degree or background in English or Maths would be an advantage, however experience and a passion for working with children is essential. As a teaching assistant you will lead and plan activities for pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis, using the national curriculum and reporting directly to the Schools inclusion manager.
Previous experience as a teaching assistant would be an advantage as you will be expected to show independence in this role, full support and an excellent induction are given prior to starting this role. The school is of average size and has over 1000 pupils on roll, there are higher than average levels of pupils who speak English as a second language and the number of children with learning difficulities is also above the national average. There is an excellent provision in place for children with learning difficulities and you will benefit from working with a special needs co-ordinator who has extensive experience and is also part of the senior leadership team.
