We are looking for a multi-talented lawyer to join our European privacy and data protection team supporting PayPal's European Union ("EU") / Europe, Middle East and Africa ("EMEA") privacy program, including for its Luxembourg-based bank. This position will provide world-class privacy and data protection related legal, compliance and regulatory advice to our internal clients as we incorporate our innovative ideas and develop new products and services to delight our customers while maintaining our strong commitment to privacy and data protection that's central to the PayPal brand.

Legal Counsel, Privacy (m/f/d)

As Privacy Counsel help ensure PayPal businesses in the EMEA and other regions collect and process personal data in compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR, and other applicable national, state/provincial, and international privacy and data protection-related laws, rules and regulations as well as company policies.

As Privacy Counsel you will use your privacy and data protection expertise to:

• review and advise on privacy and data protection-related matters related to PayPal's products and enhanced mobile and on-line products and services, technology, marketing communications, and new business initiatives

• identify and mitigate potential privacy and data protection-related risks

• help ensure compliance with Privacy by Design and Privacy by Default requirements

• analyze data flows across the data lifecycle

• advise on privacy impact assessments and data subject access requests

• help perform due diligence around business partners and services providers

• draft and negotiate appropriate privacy and data protection provisions for commercial contracts

• demonstrate in-depth knowledge of cutting edge technology issues and their privacy and data protection implications with emphasis on mobile technologies and mobile payments

• Support our global privacy organization in helping to ensure that privacy and data protection issues and opportunities are appropriately identified and addressed

Position Requirements:

• J.D. or equivalent law degree required

• Minimum of 4 to 6 years direct legal experience as in-house counsel and/or as outside counsel on privacy and data protection issues required

• Fully qualified / licensed lawyer in an EU country required

• Experience of MarTech is an advantage

• Critical thinking; sound and practical legal and business judgment; attention to detail, collaborative and proactive approach to problem solving; integrity

• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team

• Demonstrated use of, proficiency with, and passion for PayPal products and services

• Highest standards of and commitment to ethics and integrity

• Ability to build relationships and trust across the organization

• Excellent communications skills

• Ability to identify, understand and respond to business and technical requirements

• CIPP, CISSP, CISA and/or other relevant certifications desirable

• Fluent English required, any additional language a plus

• Ability to travel as needed (post covid)
