A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a talented professional looking to further their legal career in the financial services sector. This newly created role comes after a period of sustained growth, providing headcount for a full-time, permanent Legal Counsel. This incoming hire will join an inhouse legal team of 3 who provide legal support and commercially focused advice to the business, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations and minimising legal risk.

The remit of the role requires a pro-active individual, with excellent communication skills who would enjoy the challenge of an evolutionary environment. Although the future workload for this hire will be varied, the immediate key responsibilities will involve providing additional legal support for the firms new Third Party Management function, advising on EBA Guidelines, GDPR, cloud outsourcing and IT/IP matters whilst also participating in other of transactional and non-transactional work. It is expected that this person will report directly to the Head of Legal and assist in interactions with Close Brothers Group on a regular basis.
The position would best suit a candidate between 5-8 Years PQE, although there could be exception this for the right candidate.
Key Primary Responsibilities include:
Supporting increased regulatory scrutiny and reporting requirements on outsourcing e.g. EBA Guidelines on Outsourcing, attendance at outsourcing committees and TPM meetings Involvement in strategic programs involving third party suppliers. Increased negotiation of new supplier agreements Remediation of legacy agreements e.g. GDPR and outsourcing project work Horizon scanning of legal and regulatory developments and best practice. Creating new template documents
Other General Responsibilities include:
To assist the Head of Legal Counsel in the delivery of customer focused, timely and pragmatic advice/recommendations on all legal matters, including multi-jurisdictional issues, offering practical legal solutions to challenges. Particular legal focus on financial services (including custody/administration/brokerage/retail investments), regulatory (including CASS/COBS), contract law, commercial law, IT, intellectual property, trademarks and litigation. To provide high quality legal and procedural advice and guidance at all stages of the business’s decision making process and to build relationships and liaise with all relevant stakeholders (including the business but also shared services such as Compliance, Risk and Finance) to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action have been taken to mitigate those risks. To ensure the effective and ongoing implementation and compliance with legislative requirements and policy and other legal developments (both existing and emerging). Drafting and negotiation of legal agreements with customers and external suppliers. To assist the Head of Legal Counsel with the management and development of the company’s documentation precedents database.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Strong academic background, holding both Undergraduate and Post-Graduate legal qualification. Applicants should ideally have between 5-8 years Post Qualified Experience practicing in Financial Services (although previous knowledge of Market making is not required, an interest and willingness to learn is required) The candidate would preferably have experience within Third Party Management Outsourcing, EBA Guidelines, GDPR, cloud outsourcing and IT/IP matters A willingness to embrace a varied workload in keeping with working in a small team.
Commitment to continuous personal development Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and use own initiative. Team player with the ability to work autonomously but refer to the Manager where required or appropriate.
