Sewell Facilities are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year via a Helpdesk which is part of our Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system.


Role Overview:

Reporting to the Facilities Manager/Facilities Team Manager, the School Caretaker will be based at Hob Moor Children's Centre, York, and will have overall responsibility for maintenance, porterage and cleaning services. The School Caretaker will also ensure that all services are provided to a consistently high standard and assist the Facilities Management team in all areas required to meet the needs of both the business and the client. The School Caretaker will need to work flexibly to meet the needs of the team and may be required to take part in the out of hour’s on-call rota system.


Hours of work:

  • Monday to Friday, 12.30pm-6.30pm
  • 30 hours per week


Key responsibilities:

  • Planned and reactive maintenance as required. Responding to all allocated helpdesk requests ensure jobs are completed within allocated service level agreements
  • Utility monitoring
  • General maintenance and repairs to building fabric and associated equipment as necessary
  • Identification and reporting/repairing of defects and maintenance requirements
  • Porterage and caretaking tasks; including accepting deliveries, litter picking, weeding, removal of rubbish and the setting out of furniture to agreed timescales and standards
  • Supervision and induction of Subcontractors; including monitoring of risk assessments & method statement compliance during works
  • Health & Safety duties; ensuring that the building is operated in a safe and legally compliant manner at all times
  • Client liaison; including communication with the Head Teacher / nominated deputy
  • Health, Safety and Environmental watchdog
  • Managing and fire systems and relevant documentation as Building Fire Officer
  • Be a main key holder to the School, including responding to emergency call outs as part of the on-call rota system
  • Carry out emergency cleaning as and when required
  • Ensure safe pedestrian access especially during adverse weather conditions
  • Carry out the normal operating and testing procedures for the hydrotherapy pool

Requirements

Skills & Attributes:

Essential:

  • Have a positive and professional attitude
  • Be computer literate (Microsoft Office)
  • Have a proactive attitude towards maintaining the facility at a world class quality level
  • Hold excellent communications skills and the ability to liaise with Tenant Groups & subcontractors
  • Possess good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a variety of tasks
  • Possess a positive approach to learning, development and progression
  • Have a trade background or good practical core skills together with previous maintenance experience
  • Have a flexible outlook towards hours worked (some out of hours working may be required)
  • Have working knowledge of current Health and Safety practice


Desirable:

  • Previous working experience within a school environment
  • Be First Aid at Work trained
  • Hold a Valid UK Driving license
  • IOSH Managing Safely – or similar qualification
