The Budget Controller is responsible for the finances around production projects as well as the production department itself.


All members in the team will carry out the following responsibilities:

  • Ensure that projects are delivered to the highest quality, on time and on budget
  • Able to recognise and nurture good creativity
  • Protect and follow the production process
  • Organised with a great attention to detail
  • Have excellent production knowledge, maintaining strong local and international production connections and staying abreast of changes and new talent in the industry
  • Build strong working relationships internally and with production partners and clients, with a pleasant, proactive and firm but fair working manner
  • Be assertive, in order to keep the client, suppliers and internal teams motivated - no matter what unforeseen situation arises
  • Have clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Be proactive – keeping two steps ahead of everyone else, never making assumptions
  • Proactively anticipate potential problems and formulate smart solutions
  • Be flexible to adapt to changing business needs
  • Ensure all financials are kept up to date: estimates, POs, timesheets, invoices, billing
  • Ensure that costs for Business Affairs are included in the production estimate and that timesheets for Business Affairs’ time are entered into the Manage Plus system (or any other time recording system implemented within McCann)
  • Work closely with the team to help each individual succeed
  • Strong computer skills in Word and Excel
  • A good sense of humor and optimistic outlook.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Open job numbers and digital job jackets
  • Intercompany billings in timely manner
  • Input estimate into Vantage and approve estimate in Manage Plus, once the right approvals have been obtained
  • Work alongside Business Affairs, Producers, Account Managers and McCann Finance to ensure that the correct amount of Time of Staff is part of every estimate and funds are transferred into the production P&L
  • Work alongside Business Affairs and Producers to issue Purchase Orders and process invoices
  • Ensure financial compliance of production projects
  • Ensure 3rd party costs are paid in accordance with contracted agreements including rush payments
  • Reconcile production jobs for 3rd party and internal costs with Producers in a timely manner
  • Police time entry
  • Direct and oversee Producers so that documentation is contained within the digital job jacket
  • Oversee freelance spend, as well as production team utilization
  • Act as a point of reference for all financial aspects of production projects
  • Liaise with McCann Finance and Technology to set up new direct clients


· Minimal experience in production finance

· Knowledge of finance process

· Understanding of advertising production
