We now have a fantastic opportunity to join the Commercial Lines business as a Senior Management Liability (MLP) Underwriter, joining us on a full-time permanent basis as we experience an exciting growth trajectory as we invest in our workforce of the future.

As part of our new smart working strategy at AXA UK, the Senior Management Liability Underwriter position can be performed and worked from home (anywhere within the UK) with very minimal travel to our Commercial sites (mainly Bolton or Manchester) once or twice per month and we are very happy to talk flexible working.

About the Senior Management Liability (MLP) Underwriter

As the Senior Management Liability (MLP) Underwriter, you will be making decisions and recommendations to assist in the development and control of profitable underwriting, supporting new and existing business opportunities and monitoring of performance of management liability products in accordance with company strategy and the business plan as well as developing other Senior MLP underwriters.

Other Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide efficient and accurate case by case underwriting decisions in line with strategy and operational plans.
  • Provide efficient and accurate case by case underwriting decisions on all management liability referrals into CCU in line with strategy and operations plans.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure that business needs are achieved.
  • Training, coaching and development of underwriters, sales staff and brokers to ensure they are competent in their role through improved knowledge.
  • Ensure cross-sell strategy embedded into the branch.

You will need to be an experienced MLP Underwriter with the ability to negotiate face-to-face with a panel of intermediaries; you will be self-motivated, and comfortable managing your own workload; this is imperative as you will need to operate at a strategic level, personally and actively influencing our approach and future direction.

This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.

Who are we looking for?

This role is ideal for an individual who has a thorough understanding of the MLP Underwriting market at a senior level, with a sound knowledge of market trends and analytical packages to intermediate level and experience of analysing and managing Management Liability products.

You will have a thorough knowledge to develop excellent customer relationships with senior individuals with a strong level of technical underwriting expertise in a professional indemnity environment.

Good negotiation, influencing and interpersonal and relationship management skills are all key to the role’s success.

Further Skills / Qualifications:

  • Professional CII qualification desirable or equivalent experience (5-10 years MLP experience). CII Diploma in Insurance (minimum), CII Advanced Diploma in Insurance preferable.
  • Knowledge of the technical underwriting process and ability to apply it.
  • Pragmatic decision maker with good analytical and numerical reasoning skills.
  • General insurance principles and practice and be able to apply them
  • Underwriting and management of individual complex cases, portfolios and schemes.
  • Excellent broker relationships and presentation skills
  • General insurance law and market regulation (FSA) and how to apply them.
  • Detailed Management Liability product knowledge
  • Understand claim process, policy and philosophy
  • Ability to interpret insurance related statistics
  • Financial modelling and interpretation of financial reports
  • Excellent negotiation skills and interpersonal skills
  • Understand facultative reinsurance market.
