JOB SUMMARY

Throughout your placement you will contribute to this by working with the Greenspace Team to ensure that practical resources are available for practical sessions and maintained to a high standard. You will also be required to assist in practical sessions.

Main responsibilities of post:
Maintaining and monitoring the practical resources in the Greenspace department.
Supporting practical sessions
Maintaining the Greenspace area to a high standard
You may also be asked to support any other member of the team in the delivery of their duties.

Location of work:
You may be required to work at or from any building, location, or premises of Myerscough College, and any other establishment where Myerscough College conducts its business. You may also be required to work from home.

Probationary period:
A probationary period of 4 months applies to any offer of employment under the Kickstart Scheme.

Dress Code
All post holders are expected to be of a professional and presentable appearance.

References/Medical Clearance/Disclosure:
The appointment is subject to the receipt of satisfactory references, medical clearance and Disclosure and Barring Service check. Should your application be successful you will be sent further details via email from eSafeguarding. They are the Registered Umbrella Body we have chosen to complete the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) process on your behalf.
Occupational Sick pay is not paid during the first four months of service and thereafter is subject to the Colleges Sick Pay Scheme.

SKILLS NEEDED
Knowledge:
A keen interest in Arboriculture/Horticulture.
An understanding of maintaining tools and equipment is desirable.

Experience:
Experience of practical work in Arboriculture/Horticulture is desirable.
Experience of maintaining/monitoring tools and equipment is desirable.

Skills and Ability:
Excellent interpersonal skills (the ability to communicate well and get along with others).
Highly organised, efficient, and good levels of attention to detail.
Strong practical skills.

Communication and Characteristics:
An interest in working outdoors.
Able to communicate clearly, respectfully, sensitively, and in a professional manner.
Approachable and able to demonstrate sympathy and empathy when dealing with issues which require understanding.
You show respect and fairness when communicating, considering the feelings of others.

WORKING HOURS
Monday to thursday, 9am to 4.15pm

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
Myerscough College will offer sessions with our Careers Team, which will be integrated in addition to access to the Careers Schedule of Events.
These sessions are designed to enhance employability, aid personal development and offer support to students across all of our campuses.
These activities should help them get basic work skills.

CV building
Interview practice

College work place and role induction will involve an initial assessment and identification of individuals personal development requirements (skills, attitudes and behaviours).
Targets will be agreed, recorded in the individuals PDP (Personal Development Plan) and progress will be monitored against these over the six-month period, in a minimum of three personal tutorial sessions with allocated mentors.
