Job Description:
As a Product Methodology Specialist, you will be coordinating the portfolio of Product Management Initiatives across Trading and Supply (T&S). You'll have the opportunity to have a global scope across all lines of business in T&S, covering varied and full end to end processes with full accountability to act to assure to effectiveness of the Product Management Programme.

The purpose of the Trading & Supply (T&S) business is to maximize sustained value creation across commodity markets in support of overarching Downstream objectives of material cash generation and a high return on capital.
The Commercial Operations organization includes both 'run the business capabilities' covering commercial operations support activities, as well as 'change the business capabilities' through enhanced business transformation activities such as a joint data and digital initiatives and project delivery.
The T&S Digital and Data team partners with the Business to support cross T&S digital initiatives and coordinate the overall T&S data and digital agenda, which is aligned with the T&S business priorities, centralizing programme delivery to enable integration and optimization. While commercial businesses will retain ownership of their respective data and digital agendas, this team works closely with IT and the Business to accelerate data and digital transformation initiatives and takes the lead for strategic cross business digital investments.
What's the role
A key success factor for the delivery of rapid and exceptional outcomes will be Product Thinking, where we will drive delivery via many small and focused teams within the business, levering Agile ways of working.
The Product Methodology Specialist will support delivery of T&S initiatives being delivered as Products by providing expert advice and SME input to the business, coaching and developing capable Product Owners within the T&S Business.
As a Product Methodology Specialist, you'll ensure that Product Management standards and guidelines are understood and applied across T&S and will work with IT and organizational development teams to develop and build Product Thinking skills across T&S to ensure capability for Agile delivery is sustained. You will be providing guidance and coaching to T&S Product developments to ensure that delivery is effective and maintain a connection with the broader T&S Product Management agenda. Your purpose is to drive speed in value delivery across T&S and participate in Product Developments as needed and on an exceptional basis.
More specific responsibilities include:
- Reports to the T&S Product Methodology Programme Manager
- Works closely with the Data/Digital Team Programme Management Office to ensure opportunities to move to product methodology are tracked and developed.
- Executes specific elements of the T&S Product Management Agenda as defined by the Product Methodology Programme Manager, supporting the faster and more accurate business value realization and contributing to it where needed
- Ensure that the T&S Product Management Approach supports technical and non-technical initiatives equally effectively.
- Acts as representative for (Cross) T&S Product Management on Royal Dutch Shell (RDS) Product Management forums
- Works with the Data/Digital Change Manager to develop/execute an effective Change and Engagement Plan.
- Supports Business, Commercial Operations, Business Integration & Assurance Managers (BIAMs) and IT with scoping, planning and resourcing (e.g. Programme Management Office capabilities) of new initiatives requiring Product Management
- Ensure that an external focus is maintained to continually refresh ideas and develop an externally competitive mindset and acts as representative for T&S on external industry/best practice groups
- Contribute to the T&S Product Management Community of Practice to facilitate Best Practice and Lessons Learned sharing
- Monitors effectiveness of Product Management in T&S, including cadence, effectiveness, participation and value delivery through mechanism defined by T&S Product Methodology Programme Manager
What we need from you
We're looking for experienced professionals with experience in Digital and Data in a large complex organisation, and in developing of organisation-wide initiatives. You must have extensive experience in all types of initiative delivery methodologies including; Waterfall, Prince 2, Agile, Scrum, Kanban and Product Thinking.

- Experience and successful track record of creating, driving and delivering initiatives,
- Experience of leading multi-functional and diverse teams.
- Expert at defining Business Problems and coaching others in the definition of Business Problems prior to commencing initiatives
- Commercial acumen with balanced understanding of business risk and reward
- Ideally has a good understanding of the purpose of T&S, customer requirements, competitor positions, regulatory constraints, trading strategies and the mechanics of trading. Including a basic understanding of the commodity value-chains.
You must be a strong communicator with excellent stakeholder management and engagement skills. You must also demonstrate external mind-set and customer focus and bring in your strong analytical skills and strategic problem-solving skills.
