About the Opportunity
Our Water and Catchment Management sector provides a focus for advising our clients on delivering sustainable drainage, flood risk management and civil engineering solutions. Water and Catchment Management comprises in excess of 400 staff based in the UK and Europe, but with reach into the Middle East, Australasia and America.
To meet our growing UK business needs and future development aspirations we are looking for an experienced Surface Water Drainage Engineer to work on the development of designs for surface water drainage solutions, from concept through to detailed design for construction in a variety of sectors including highways, rail, airports and other developments, to be based in our Winnersh (Reading) office.
The successful person will become part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities.
You will be well established within your career and have applied your knowledge of surface water drainage in supervising, coordinating and supporting junior staff. Enthusiastic about planning and delivering innovative schemes to manage surface water you wish to work on increasingly complex projects and build your skills in project management, business development and leadership.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading on the outline and detailed design of surface water drainage solutions including SuDS
- Developing surface water drainage strategies
- Hydraulic modelling (using MicroDrainage software) of surface water drainage systems
- Leading on the production of design calculations, technical drawings, contract documents, technical specifications and drainage schedules

Here's What You'll Need:
- Undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience of delivering outline and detailed design of surface water drainage solutions and surface water drainage strategies including SuDS
- Proficient in hydraulic modelling (using MicroDrainage software) and AutoCAD/Civil3D
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation, planning policy, guides and design standards relating to surface water drainage design and flood risk management
- Chartered or approaching chartership
Ideally, here's what you'll also have:
- Construction related background either as a supervisor or site support role
- Knowledge of environmental permitting and consenting for ordinary watercourses
- Understanding of BIM and digital design processes
