Your Impact:
Reporting to the Design Manager you will be involved in designing and developing highway maintenance schemes from preliminary investigation through design to the construction phase, providing highway maintenance design expertise and advice and technical mentoring and specialist advisor to other team members.
KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITES :
• Provide technical expertise to ensure that highway maintenance scheme designs are prepared in accordance with current legislation, best practice, council policies and to the highest technical standards.
• Responsible for providing technical advice and guidance regarding highway maintenance to ensure delivery to agreed timetables. Ensure that schemes are prepared for assigned projects in accordance with current health and safety procedures and regulations.
• Assume Principal Designer roles for assigned scheme as defined under the Construction Design and Management Regulations, as appropriate.
• Guide, advise and support team members to resolve local issues ensuring that decisions are made on sound technical grounds
• Provide expert advice to other staff within any areas of specific personal expertise to help resolve local issues, and continuously pursue new and novel solutions to problems encountered in order to improve service delivery
• Co-ordinate other design disciplines on highway schemes.
• Represent East Sussex Highways at meetings with other bodies and provide technical expertise and input to briefings, reports and responses to correspondence, elected members, complaints and media enquiries
• To undertake all tasks, duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description, in accordance with East Sussex Highways policies, practices, procedures and standards.
• Seek to foster and maintain effective working relationships with East Sussex County Council's client team and wider County Council contacts
Here's What You'll Need:
• Educated to HNC level
• IEng or working towards with extensive relevant experience
• Member of appropriate professional body
• Extensive experience of designing and delivering highway maintenance schemes
• Experience of working in large complex organisation
• Experience of supporting teams in technical delivery
• Experience of producing briefs
• Experience of managing consultants
• Extensive knowledge of highway maintenance engineering and contracts
• Knowledge of business planning and performance management
• Knowledge of key issues facing Local Government
• Legislative knowledge
