Senior Data Engineer

What you'll be doing

In your role as a Senior Data Engineer, you will be at the leading edge of data and insight transformation in health care, local government and wider public sector domains. As a Senior Data Engineer in our team, you will be responsible for building, delivering, and optimising our suite of data platform and engineering services. You will play a leading role in the development of our data platform and data product offerings, and will support our data architects to drive continuous improvement and adoption of the latest technologies into our toolkit. 

You will be pro-actively encouraged and supported to maintain your skills at the leading edge of the technologies we work with, including dedicated time for industry recognised learning and certifications. 

The day-to-day role will involve working with data architects, developers, and data analysts on data initiatives, and will be central to the design and deployment of data services to our clients. You will be self-directed and comfortable supporting the needs of multiple teams, systems, and products. 

• Support design, delivery and management of our data platform and data product offerings, working predominantly with MS Azure technologies, including but not limited to Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Power BI, DataBricks, Azure Data Lakes, Azure Service Bus, Azure Data Factory and/or Polybase.
• Specialise in the performant, cost-effective and secure movement of data throughout our platforms and products to enable a wide range of use cases from self-service reporting to AI/ML products.
• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements for example automation of manual processes, optimisation of data delivery, and the redesign of infrastructure for greater scalability. 
• Work alongside architects and engineers to imbue a DevOps culture and methodology within our work.
• Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data platform/data product infrastructure.
• Analyse the quality of data, establish rules to determine and improve it. Planning, deliver and oversee cleansing activities as required.
• Contribute to and where appropriate author High and Low-Level Design documents, maintaining the architectural standards our team have set.

• Undertake day-to-day management of technical delivery for projects throughout the project lifecycle including, Discovery; Design; Build; Transition; Manage. 
• Develop relationships with clients, partners, staff and associates, and focus on translating clients’ business requirements into technical specifications 
• Identify new opportunities to solve client’s future challenges and help to contribute to profitability and strong governance.
• Support the Agilisys Data & Insight practice to develop sales, delivery, and knowledge processes, writing and presenting content to help raise our profile, and modelling best practices 
• As a Senior Data Engineer, there is also the opportunity for further progression to gain further expertise in architecture and more complex technical project experience. 

Experience we love to see

• Designing and building effective data pipelines and products using key technologies. Demonstrable experience of effective delivery using MS Azure technologies is essential – key components include Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, Data Bricks, Azure Service Bus and Logic Apps.
• Working knowledge of SQL and experience working with relational databases and query authoring (such as T-SQL). Experience of machine learning languages including Python and R are desirable along with Spark or Data Bricks.
• Experience of providing support to data transformation, data structures, metadata and/or other data services and engineering areas.
• Experience of working with DevOps tools and methodologies as they relate to Data Engineering disciplines would be desirable but not essential.
