About the opportunity:
Jacobs air quality team are based in offices around the UK (e.g. London, Manchester, Leeds) and have a growing portfolio of projects and we need you to help us deliver this work! A large proportion of our work is related to large transport infrastructure (e.g. road schemes) which require good analytical skills and attention to detail. We have been involved in a number of key projects such as HS2, London ULEZ and various Clean Air Zones (CAZ). We are also developing our climate change portfolio of work and are expanding our services in this area too.
The Jacobs Acoustics team has specialists based across the UK and Poland who work with numerous high-profile clients solving complex noise and vibration issues both nationally and globally. We have a proven track record in the successful delivery of projects across a broad range of sectors including environmental, transportation, industrial and buildings. We are technically diverse team, continuously evolving our capabilities and progression into new fields including PA systems and bioacoustics. Our project delivery strengths are enhanced by our advanced innovative and integrated approach to noise modelling and its automation, along with its assessment using multiple software packages. These include CadnaA, SoundPlan, IMMI, NoiseMap, ArcGIS, SQL, EASE, and INSUL.
Here's What You'll Need:
About you:
Air - At a graduate level we would expect excellent numerical skills (e.g. A level maths or equivalent) as well as a relevant degree. Knowledge of, and interest in air quality, and/or climate change and GIS would also be beneficial. At a more senior level we require people to help lead the air quality/climate change aspects of projects, have excellent knowledge and a suitable track record of delivering relevant EIA chapters for large infrastructure projects, as well as the ability to use spreadsheet based tools and data manipulation, ADMS-Roads/Urban and GIS. Experience of presenting air quality or climate change evidence at public inquiry or at DCO hearings would also be beneficial.
Noise - We are looking for enthusiastic acousticians with a relevant honours or masters degree in acoustics or a relevant science degree. Previous related work experience within the acoustics sector would be advantageous but not essential.
Essential skills / experience required
• An understanding of environmental assessment
• Experience in data analysis and manipulation
• Good IT skills and aptitude to learning new scientific programmes and procedures
• Excellent numeracy skills
• Capability and desire for team working
• Strong attention to detail and an ability to apply knowledge in practice
Desirable skills / experience
• Familiar with computational noise modelling packages
• Knowledge and application of guidance and British Standards relevant to noise and vibration impact and assessment
• Experience in computer programming, ArcGIS, ArcPro and/or SQL
• Valid driving licence
