Diabetes is a condition in which the body has trouble dealing with varying levels of insulin in the body. There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes occurs when insulin producing cells are attacked by the body, leaving a person unable to produce the insulin required to regulate blood glucose levels. The much more coming form of diabetes is Type 2. This is when not enough insulin is produced in the body, leading to an imbalanced blood glucose level. Around 90% of people with diabetes have Type 2.
Whilst it is possible to manage diabetes with the right eating habits, exercise and injections, it is important to have people who understand the condition. There is a lot of scope in the medical industry for people who specialise in diabetes assistance, with many more jobs available besides the obvious medical ones. Pay for medical experts is, as usual, very good, but there are decent levels of pay for people who support the medical staff and offer additional support.
The main one, obviously, is a doctor or nurse. Many years of education and training is required to become one and you can specialise in a particular area, such as diabetes. Alternatively, you could train in counselling and offer emotional and practical support to those with diabetes. You could set up a charity in aid of people with diabetes and do a whole host of things without putting yourself through medical school.
72% of current opportunities are permanent, whereas 28% are contract jobs.
