Hungry, commission-driven, stop at nothing to succeed? Sales jobs are there for those that thrive off the challenge of winning that deal and subsequently adding to their regular pay packet. Without sales there would be no revenues and without revenues there is no company. Sales jobs are what drives a companies performance.

They can be broadly be divided along the lines of retail or business-to-business. A graduate going into sales would typically end up in a business to business role in an industry such as FMCG's (fast moving consumer goods) or consumer durables. Retail sales roles could include selling credit cards to consumers or cars in a showroom. Retail sales can be on the premises, telesales or less frequently these days, door-to-door.

Different types of sales roles can involve different skill sets as well as responsibilities. The "super closer" is a salesperson who is constantly selling and trying to close deals in a short space of time, the consultant salesperson would typically deal with a higher end product and require a larger degree of education about this product. The relationship builder is the salesperson who would spend a long time schmoozing a client before winning a big ticket deal and the flat salary salesperson is one who often works on a shop floor or in a bank and has to deal with many new customers on a daily basis.

Not all sales roles involve commission. Some are just a straight salary deal. Other roles can be the opposite extreme and offer no basic and just commission only.
