Weekend work, whilst once seen as the domain of spotty teenagers behind tills in the local chip shop, is now a booming industry, with more people turning to it as an additional form of income. Weekend work is exactly as described. It is part time employment on a Saturday or Sunday, usually, but not exclusively, in the retail sector.
As weekend work would usually only entail between 7-20 hours, it is not a wage that would support a family, but would provide enough cash to boost one's income. The most likely person to take up weekend work is still a student. Having said that, older people are getting in on the act too, sometimes as a way to increase their pension, but also as a social experience.
Weekend work, as the hours are so few, is rarely skilled work, but does offer the opportunity to increase your skill base and would look good on a CV, especially if you have been able to accept certain responsibilities.
As stated, weekend work is primarily in retail. Till work, shop floor work, customer service. You name it, the Saturday boy or girl will usually have to do it. Having said that, it is a great way to earn employment before gaining qualifications and would improve skills vital for many industries.
Other weekend work available could be in the childcare sector. A lot of people go away for weekends so looking after children of a weekend could be a valuable source of income for anyone with childcare qualifications.
