Chief metaverse officer

Potential salary: Around £60,000-£70,000
The metaverse is a big deal, so much so that Facebook’s parent company rebranded to become Meta in 2022.
The metaverse experience varies, it could be a social activity, meeting friends and their avatars in 3D using VR headsets, owning a part of it in the form of art or a place, or simply a gaming experience.
With activities such as shopping now available within the metaverse, there will be an increasing need for metaverse experts within a range of businesses.

Doula
Similar roles: Midwife, nurse, counsellor
Potential salary: Around £30,000-£40,000
Now, this isn’t a new role at all, in fact the origins have been traced back to prehistoric times. Doulas are however making a comeback, following studies that have shown the benefits of a doula.
A doula is a trained companion who supports someone during a significant health-related experience such as childbirth, miscarriage, or a death. They’re a non-healthcare professional who is often seen as a spiritual guide (although not always affiliated with a certain faith).
Some doulas are self-employed, some are voluntary, while others are salaried by a hospital.

Doga instructor

Potential salary: Average £32,500
Around half a million Brits attend a yoga class, either online or in studio, per week. It’s something that’s big business, which is why instructors are always thinking of new ways to stand out.
From wine and beer yoga, to goats and kittens, to dog yoga (better known as doga) there are lots of fun ways to play with yoga classes.
We must admit, we’re not sure how much yoga gets done in a doga class, but you would need to be a professional yoga teacher in order to teach these classes. It would also be helpful if you weren’t allergic and sneezing through your downward dogs!

Physical scientist

Potential salary: Average £38,740
The oil and gas industries are facing a labour shortage, which means that skills in physical sciences are in demand!
Whether you’ve got skills in geophysics, engineering, or geochemistry, there are loads of well-paid careers to explore.

Ayurvedic practitioner

Potential salary: Around £30,000-£40,000
Ayurveda is a form of alternative medicine that is incredibly popular in India and Nepal. The practices combine diet, exercises (such as yoga), meditation, tinctures, and herbal medicines.
Despite being in Europe since the 1980s, it has become increasingly popular in recent years. With some workplaces already offering access to ayurvedic practitioners, this could be a trend that grows dramatically in 2023.
It’s worth noting, that this is considered an area of pseudoscience, so isn’t a replacement for visiting your GP.
Adventure innovation manager

Potential salary: Around £30,000
After the Covid-19 pandemic brought travel to a standstill, international travel is back for 2023. With many travellers having saved substantially in 2020-21, boutique backpacking seems to be a trend worth looking out for. Perfect for solo travellers, think amazing accommodation, mouth-watering food, and exclusive access to some of the world’s most incredible sights.
With this emerging trend, come emerging roles in luxury tour design, also known as adventure innovation.
You’ll need an eye for detail, a love of travel, and ideally some additional language skills to boot.

Rewilding manager

Potential salary: Around £32,000-£38,000
Rewilding is a type of conservation that aims to restore natural landscapes such as woodlands, marshes, and rivers. It could involve bringing back native species of fauna and flora in order to better balance the local ecosystem.
Rewilding can reverse carbon emissions and climate change, so is a vitally important methodology.
At the recent COP15, nations across the globe committed to protecting 30% of the earth’s sea and land, so there couldn’t be a better time to explore a career in biodiversity and rewilding.

Sustainability and cleantech
Similar roles: Sustainable travel, sustainability consultant
Potential salary: Upwards of £40,000
More and more brands are working towards sustainability goals. From achieving net zero to getting rid of all single-use packaging, the world is waking up to the sustainability movement.
That’s also reflected in the growing number of ‘cleantech’ (or ‘greentech’) startups popping up to tackle problems like carbon emissions or minimising waste. In November, the UK Government announced £65million in investment into green technologies. With companies including Octopus Energy to Carbon Clean, green jobs are trending.
Chief sustainability officers meanwhile, work across a business to ensure all areas are eco-friendly. This could be everything from how employees get to work, to how something is manufactured. As a senior role, you could be looking at wages exceeding £50k, depending on your area of expertise.

BeReal coordinator

BeReal is a French photo-sharing app that prompts all of its users to take a photo in the same 2-minute window each day. When that window is varies wildly. What makes BeReal unique is that it takes a photo from the front and back camera simultaneously, so users don’t need to choose between a selfie and a shot of friends, they capture both.
The idea behind the app is that it’s a more realistic representation of unfiltered daily life, as users cannot take a million pictures in search of that one perfect shot.
The app gained traction in 2022, especially with Gen Z, and it looks like this is an app that more and more of us will use in 2023.

TikTok Shop livestream host

TikTok Shop is a new way for businesses to sell directly to consumers. Through their own videos, or videos with collaborators, merchants can sell their products.
It’s a great way for brands to showcase their products with brief demonstrations, try ons, and general advice videos.
It’s kind of like the shopping channels that your grandma might still enjoy, but much more short form.

Electric car mechanic

Potential salary: Upwards of £35,000
In the UK, there are now over 620,000 battery-electric cars, plus a further 440,000 plug-in hybrids, on the roads. Increasing fuel costs, worries about the environment, and tax benefits mean that this is an upward trend.
With an increase in users, comes an increase in the need for specialist mechanics to service these vehicles so this is definitely a career that’s future-proof.
We think this could be a great role for someone with expertise in electronics or mechanics.
Coronation coordinator

On Saturday 6th May, King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will be coronated at Westminster Abbey in front of the eyes of the nation, as well as millions from around the globe.
Not only will there be jobs within the Civil Service for the official celebrations, but towns and cities around the country will be hosting their own celebrations. From street parties to BBQs, there’s going to be a substantial need for organised professionals to pull this together.
